birthday cake

This is a birthday cake made by creating the cake body, strawberries, and a chocolate plaque separately.
For the cake body, fold the origami paper in half horizontally, then fold it in half again.
Unfold it once, fold both left and right corners into triangles, then fold up to the first horizontal halfway line.
Flip it over and adjust the corners to shape it like a cake.
For the strawberries, take red origami folded into a square base, adjust the corners, and shape them.
Write a name and message on the chocolate plaque.
Attach the chocolate and strawberries to the cake with clear tape, then use a white pen to draw the strawberry seeds and cake decorations to finish!
A surprise box made of origami!

These days, you can get just about anything you want—even 100-yen shops have “packaging and wrapping” sections.
Precisely because we live in such a time, the charm of handmade items really stands out.
How about a surprise box for holding a small birthday present? You make a square box out of origami, and when you lift the lid, the four side walls—acting as the box’s sides—fall flat with a flip.
It sounds like a trick, but really it’s just that the four sides aren’t taped together! It’ll make for a little surprise that brightens up a birthday.
It would look great with homemade cookies or handmade accessories tucked inside as a gift.
bouquet

This bouquet is perfect for a birthday celebration.
You will need one 15 cm square sheet of origami paper for the wrapping, three 7.5 cm square sheets for the flowers, scissors, and glue.
For each flower, fold along the diagonal to make a crease, then turn the paper over.
Fold the top, bottom, left, and right sides to crease them as well, then press the left and right sides inward and collapse into a triangle.
Fold the top corner back about halfway, and cut along a line with scissors to match the length of the bottom edge.
Trim the left and right corners slightly to form the petals.
Take the cut-off pieces, round them by folding, and glue them to the center of the flower to make a cute blossom.
Try making a colorful bouquet with lots of different colors!

A gift-shaped message card

If you add a little present-shaped message card to your gift, it will spark excitement and boost the birthday mood.
First, fold a sheet of origami paper in half into a square, then fold it in half horizontally twice to make crease lines.
Open it once, and fold the top and bottom to the nearest crease.
Next, with the white side facing down, fold the top, bottom, left, and right to the halfway point.
Open the pocket at the top so it forms a ribbon shape, tuck in the bottom, and you’re done.
Enjoy making your own original message card by using your favorite colors or drawing patterns on the box part.
A pop-up card with blooming flowers

This is a pop-up card with flowers that spring out.
You will need thick paper for the card base, colored construction paper for the flowers, a plate, scissors, a pencil, glue, and so on.
First, trace a circle on the colored paper using a plate and cut it out.
Fold it in half twice, then fold it in half again front and back.
Round off the tip to create a flower shape.
Next, make mountain folds along the horizontal lines and valley folds along the diagonal lines to fold it into a heart shape.
Glue the tip of the heart to the center of the cardstock, and you’re done.
After that, decorate as you like and enjoy making a cute card.
Perfect for small gifts! Gift wrapping

If you’re thinking that a birthday present might feel a bit plain when both the wrapping bag and its contents are store-bought, how about a handmade mini pouch made from origami? It’s the perfect little pouch for small chocolates or candies, so once you learn how to make it, you’ll find it handy in many situations.
All you need is origami paper and glue—even if you’re not confident with crafts, it’s OK! Using 15 cm × 15 cm origami paper yields a palm-sized pouch.
Since it’s made by layering the paper, it’s reasonably sturdy too, which is a nice bonus.
Heart-shaped message card

A cute heart-shaped message card made from a single sheet of origami is perfect for celebrations.
First, fold the paper in half horizontally to make a crease.
Rotate it, then fold up the bottom portion, leaving about one-third of the top uncovered.
Unfold once, fold back up to the crease, flip it over, and fold the left and right sides to the center line.
Flip it over again, and once more fold up the bottom portion, leaving about one-third at the top.
Flip it over, open the pocket in the center, fold back the bottom corners and tuck them inside to form the top of the heart.
Flip it over one last time and fold it flat—the result is a card where the heart pops and stands out beautifully.
