Climbing Santa

A craft that depicts Santa coming to your home on Christmas Eve and delivering presents.
You can enjoy watching Santa move, making it a perfect idea for children eagerly awaiting Christmas.
First, glue a straw to the inside of a paper cup with the bottom cut out, and thread a string through it.
Attach a Santa illustration to the outside of the cup, and the item is complete! Hang the string, and when you pull it by hand, Santa climbs upward.
It’s also recommended to draw a chimney illustration against a night-sky background to deepen the overall atmosphere.

Christmas lantern

Here’s an idea for a Christmas lantern made by cutting a transparent sheet into a cone shape and decorating it with neo-cellophane! You can stick the neo-cellophane on randomly as you like, or first draw Christmas-themed designs and then use the cellophane like torn-paper collage.
The transparent sheet will be rolled into a cone, but since decorating becomes difficult after rolling, decide where the edges will be joined and apply the neo-cellophane beforehand.
Once it’s finished, place a soft light inside, darken the room, and enjoy.
handbell

Let’s make handbells using paper cups.
Put empty cans or beads inside so they make sound, and decorate the outside with colored construction paper and pipe cleaners.
If you play a Christmas song, the kids are sure to be all smiles! Working together, everyone can create a beautiful harmony.
With handbell performances, each person is in charge of one note to build a single piece of music, so even children who aren’t confident with instruments can join in and have fun.
After the performance, they can take their bell home as a decoration, so the Christmas spirit can last even longer.
Homemade crackers

Let’s make a high-flying cracker that’s perfect for a Christmas party! First, prepare two paper cups and cut out the bottoms of both.
Keep one of the cut-out bottoms—you’ll use it later.
Next, make four small slits around the rim of the bottom edge, and hook rubber bands onto two opposite slits so they hang inside the cup; tape them in place.
Twist the hanging rubber bands once and hook them onto the remaining two slits, then secure those as well.
Tie another rubber band at the point where the bands cross, and attach a small ball made by taping a wad of tissue to the end of it.
Finally, stack the second paper cup over the first and insert the saved cut-out bottom inside.
You’re done! Put in some decorative pom-poms, pull the ball back and release—your contents will go pop and fly out!
star-shaped gift box

This is a star-shaped gift box that would make a great present box and could also work as an ornament.
You can make it using craft paper sold at 100-yen shops and similar stores.
Use a compass to draw a regular pentagon on the craft paper, then connect the points to draw a star inside it.
Next, draw another regular pentagon on the outside so that its corners overlap the first pentagon, and connect the inner pentagon’s corners with their diagonals.
All the lines you’ve drawn will be fold lines, so lightly score them with a craft knife to make folding easier.
After that, assemble everything, and your star-shaped gift box is complete.
Decorating the outside with origami paper or similar materials will give it an even more festive look!
Santa Claus sheep made with wool yarn

Recommended for Christmas decorations! Here’s how to make a Santa sheep out of yarn.
First, cut a circular piece of cardboard measuring 8 cm by 9 cm.
Next, cut a paper straw in half to make the legs.
Attach the legs to the cardboard circle, then wrap the cardboard with yarn.
Make the sheep’s face from construction paper and stick it on with double-sided tape.
Create a hat from felt and attach it.
Finally, cover the cardboard with wrapping paper to make a base, and your cute decoration is complete! By changing the colors, you can make many different decorations besides a sheep.
Pop-up Christmas tree

Seeing a three-dimensional Christmas tree pop up is sure to get you excited! You can download dedicated data or use a kit from the 100-yen shop—both are recommended.
Prepare a ruler, craft knife, glue, and so on, and carefully cut each piece one by one.
By scoring and folding, you’ll create a design where the tree appears to rise up.
Please be very careful when using the craft knife to avoid injuries.
If it’s difficult for a child to use a craft knife, an adult should help with the work.
