When it comes to iconic Japanese summer songs, many people would probably name this one first: “SUMMER NUDE” by Magokoro Brothers, released in 1995.

The song has been beloved for years—there was even a 2013 TV drama titled “SUMMER NUDE” inspired by it, and it was used as an insert song in the 2010 drama “Moteki.” Listening to it brings back nostalgic memories of playing at the beach, doesn’t it? In the music video, a man and a woman are shown flirting, and interestingly, the women who appear are the duo PUFFY!

The lyrics were written by Yasushi Akimoto and the music composed by Ryūdō Uzaki.

The Izumozaki mentioned in the lyrics refers to Izumozaki Town in Mishima District, Niigata Prefecture, and the song is a masculine enka number that conveys a rugged feel, evoking the winter Sea of Japan.

‘HIGH PRESSURE,’ featured as the CM song for Lotte’s “Sweetie Ice,” is one that will make many people instantly think, “So nostalgic!” as soon as the chorus hits.

This track, which captures the fervor of wanting to make summer love come true, has that effect where you listen to it and then look in the mirror thinking, “I’ve got to step up my game…” (lol).

In the music video, you can enjoy everything that screams T.M.Revolution: Nishikawa in an all-white outfit and a powerful vibe that doesn’t let you feel the post-bubble recession at all.

Including the MV, it’s my top recommendation as a quintessential summer anthem!

“Ocean” is a love song with a sea concept by HY, a band from Okinawa, the paradise of the ocean.

It was released in 2002 on their album “Departure.” The song packs its lyrics with a very romantic scene: two people standing by the shore, the sounds of waves and wind, the sun sinking into the sea, and a starry sky.

It also features a refreshing band sound that showcases HY’s charm, making it perfect for listening by the seaside.

It’ll make you want to chat with someone you like by the ocean—so be sure to give it a listen!

This song by Suzuki Suzuki, a brother duo composed of older brother Tomu and younger brother Seina Suzuki, evokes a calm, seaside atmosphere.

The distinctive percussion tones and light, airy guitar sounds convey a refreshing image like a summer breeze.

The lyrics, which seem to depict a summer trip, are also striking; they use many familiar words, making it easy to vividly picture the scenes.

It’s a track that feels both gentle and fun, directly conveying the freshness and exhilaration of summer.
