Hit and popular songs by SHISHAMO (Shishamo)
Let me introduce a song by SHISHAMO, a three-piece girls’ band from Kanagawa Prefecture.
Their debut came about when a record label representative happened to overhear the advisor of their high school light music club talking at his regular tonkatsu restaurant, saying, “There’s a great band.”
Apparently, the restaurant was even selling their CDs.
Their appeal lies in the down-to-earth lyrics written by the vocalist, Ms.
Miyazaki, and their performance skills that contrast with their cute visuals.
Now, please enjoy a song by SHISHAMO, a staple of the next generation of girls’ rock bands.

A missed connection dateSHISHAMO

I think this song really brings out the differences in how men and women think.
It portrays, quite vividly, a girlfriend who wants to make proper plans before going out and a boyfriend who thinks it’s fine to decide where to go and what to do on the day.
The boyfriend is completely relying on her, and she seems to be gradually losing feelings because of it.
I’m sure there are men who can relate.
The video is the second track in the album digest.
Look, you’re smiling.SHISHAMO

This is SHISHAMO’s first movie theme song.
It portrays a strong woman who parts ways with her former, timid self and strives to move forward on her own power even in the face of adversity.
The track feels like a page from a youthful story that suits a clear, sunny sky.
Unusually for them, the lyrics aren’t about romance, which makes me feel there’s still so much potential ahead.
towelSHISHAMO

This is an absolute staple at our live shows.
More than a staple—we always perform it.
If you’re going to a concert or festival, this is a must-check track.
The song cutely encourages everyone to buy our merch towel because it’s cheap.
When the chorus hits, let’s all swing our towels around as hard as we can.
The video is linked on Twitter.
MetroSHISHAMO

It portrays the bittersweet feeling of remembering the “you” I broke up with whenever I ride the metro.
The way the protagonist struggles to become strong enough to ride the metro without thinking of “you” is deeply moving.
I think most people have experienced a love they can’t forget.
This is a song that gently accompanies those feelings.
The video is a digest of the album; it appears as the eighth track.
holidaySHISHAMO

It seems they wanted to make a song with no lyrics in the chorus, so the chorus is just “ah-ah.” The song portrays a real day off so vividly that listening to it makes you want to laze around and feel relaxed.
I’d definitely want to listen to it on a day off.

Things between you and meSHISHAMO

A distinctive feature of SHISHAMO’s songs is their narrative quality, and this track is literally a story.
The lyrics describe someone who has been with “Leila” for a long time but has a true love elsewhere and is trying to go back to that person.
There’s nothing wrong with “Leila”; from the way the singer keeps telling themselves that everything is their fault, you can feel that, even while knowing it’s unforgivable, they still cherish her.
Since there’s no official music video, this is a play-through/performance video.
A DreamSHISHAMO

It’s a heartrending song about having a scary dream and wanting to tell your lover, only to remember you just broke up.
While reflecting on the reasons that led to the breakup, it portrays a girl determined to bounce back with the resolve, “I’ll make you regret it.” There’s no official music video, so this is a playthrough video.
