Normally, people judge the distance and direction of sounds by hearing reflections through walls and air.
If those reflections disappear completely, every sound seems to come from right next to your ears, and instead you start to hear the sounds inside your own body.
In the most powerful anechoic chamber—listed in the Guinness World Records—it’s said that no one has lasted more than 45 minutes.

Here’s the so-called “Silent Don,” where you watch a video of a dancer performing with no sound and try to guess what song they’re dancing to.

I want to set off firecrackers without making any sound.
At the very beginning of the experiment, quite a bit of sound was leaking, so I was worried that the soundproofing was pointless, but with each trial I got the hang of it.
After sticking sound-dampening sheets in the gaps, we could hardly hear anything.
In the end, we failed to make the firecrackers explode in complete silence, but I had to chuckle that all we heard was a tiny “tok-tok” that you’d never think came from a firecracker.
