SiM’s classic and popular songs

SiM is a round rock band that champions the genre of reggae punk.

They combine reggae, rock, dub, and other styles, crafting richly expressive songs that make extensive use of synths and sampling.

Their live performances—capable of drawing you into their world in an instant—are also a must-see.

From the 3rd full album “PANDORA,” released in October 2013.

The bass riff in the intro is highly memorable.

Once the sound effects come in, you even get to enjoy a sophisticated trick where the riff flips—impressive, as expected.

The lyrics look back on SiM’s past ten years, making it their most realistic song to date.

This is a track from their third mini-album, “i AGAINST i.” It’s a song with SiM’s signature loud reggae-punk sound that gives off a summer vibe.

At live shows, it’s become standard for the audience to do the monkey dance together with vocalist MAH.

UNDER THE TREESiM

A track whose powerful sound and bittersweet lyrics pierce the heart.

Released digitally in March 2023 as the opening theme for the TV anime Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 3 (Part 1), it’s also included on the album PLAYDEAD.

The lyrics symbolically portray Eren and Mikasa’s complex relationship and key moments in the story, deeply moving anime fans.

This work fully showcases the diverse musicality of the reggae-punk band SiM.

The arrangement makes striking use of strings, and the energetic performance is overwhelming.

It’s a must-listen for those who want to immerse themselves in the world of the story or feel new possibilities in rock.

It’s a parody of Chuck Berry’s Roll Over Beethoven.

It’s by a unit called SIM, made up of Fuyumi Sakamoto, Kiyoshiro Imawano, and Shinji Miyake, which later led to HIS.

I think I also watched this on LaserDisc back in the day.

Kiyoshiro’s upbeat vocals are really appealing.

In the broad-reaching genre of metalcore, I’d like to introduce SiM as a band that showcases a unique angle and strong individuality.

Their straightforward loud music—featuring elements reminiscent of melodic hardcore and hardcore punk—boldly incorporates reggae, while the chugging guitar riffs, sometimes interlaced with breakdowns, clearly trace the lineage of metalcore.

Favoring melody and headlong momentum over technical showmanship, their sound exerts an overwhelming presence in Japan’s loud music scene.

Since the 2010s, SiM has remained at the forefront of the punk and loud rock scene, continuing to thrive in the 2020s as a top band, including successfully headlining a show at Nippon Budokan.

Their annual music event, DEAD POP FESTiVAL, is hugely popular, and SiM is widely respected by musicians across the spectrum, from veterans to newcomers.

Since 2020, they have been hosting a live concert series called “SiM THE SHOW,” in which they recreate one previously released album per show.

The performance recreating their third studio album, PANDORA, is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

Whether you couldn’t make it at the time or you simply love the featured album, be sure to check it out again and again.

THE SHOW is a livestream series by the rock band SiM based on the concept of recreating their previously released albums.

This particular show recreates their 2008 debut album, “Silence iz Mine.” While they now have many songs leaning toward loud rock, true to their identity as a self-proclaimed reggae punk band, “Silence iz Mine” features tracks with stronger reggae and ska elements.

“Set me free,” in particular, is a must-listen for its superb balance of ska and loud rock!
