This was the pioneering anime of the piloted-robot genre.

Back then, robots represented hope for the future and were something everyone admired.

The idea of a boy piloting one became a hot topic and gained great popularity.

After that, the robot-anime boom began, and I clearly remember how the works became increasingly sophisticated.

Jungle EmperorHirano Tadahiko

This is a masterful work by Osamu Tezuka, featuring Leo the white lion as the protagonist, who grows through various events in the jungle.

Leo’s character later became the official mascot of the Seibu Lions, appearing on uniforms and merchandise and generating a lot of buzz.

Sally the WitchSuri Gureisesu, Sonoda Ken’ichi to Dekishī Kingusu

This is the opening theme of the anime Sally the Witch, which depicts the adventures of Princess Sally from the Land of Magic.

The anime was produced twice, in 1966 and 1989, and both versions used this song with different arrangements, making it a strong symbol of the series.

It’s said to have been influenced by the American TV show Bewitched, and you can sense its admiration for the West and a glamorous atmosphere in the jazz-infused sound.

The lyrics are simple, describing Sally’s character, but the magical words lightly sung at the beginning immediately draw you into the world of the song and the series.

8 ManKatsumi Shigeru

Shigeru Katsumi gives a passionate performance for the first time in 40 years!! Theme song of the anime “Eightman”
8 ManKatsumi Shigeru

A humanoid-hero type anime.

The fact that the protagonist’s name is Hachiro—just like Eightman—really cracks me up.

It’s a story about a detective who transforms and solves tough cases.

The classic hero-anime storyline is great, too.

In many ways, it might be a foundational anime.

Himitsu no Akko-chanOkada Kyoko

This song tells the story of Akko enjoying various transformations through a magic mirror.

With its light, cheerful melody, it symbolizes children’s boundless imagination and dreams.

Released as a single by Columbia Records in March 1969, it was used as the opening theme for the anime “Himitsu no Akko-chan,” which began airing the same year.

As a quintessential example of Showa-era idol pop, it continues to be loved across generations.

Accompanied by Kyoko Okada’s vocals, the lyrics invite listeners into an extraordinary world through the mirror, instilling dreams, hope, and the joy of adventure.

Why not give it another listen and revisit those nostalgic memories?

I am Kaibutsu-kun.Shiraishi Fuyumi, Imanishi Masao, Ootake Hiroshi, Kanemoto Shingo

The main character is set as a prince of Monster Land, surrounded by monsters—more like yokai.

From the original to the remake and even the live-action adaptation, it’s actually a surprisingly human story that portrays the rather cute Monster Kid’s growth alongside humans.

The second generation’s theme song sticks in my head more than the original.

Go, Go, Hyūma!Ansanhburu Bokka

A striking piece that colors a hot-blooded sports anime.

Its powerful melody and valiant lyrics ignite a fire in the listener’s heart, conjuring images of players sprinting across the field.

Released in 1968 as the opening theme for “Star of the Giants,” this song features Ensemble Bocca’s bold, heroic chorus.

Celebrating an indomitable spirit and a passion for baseball, it inspires the courage to face adversity.

It’s sure to evoke nostalgia while making you feel like the protagonist yourself—and it’s perfect for livening up a karaoke session.

A timeless classic beloved across generations—be sure to give it a listen!
