Hit and popular songs by Supercell

Here we introduce songs by supercell, a creative collective centered around ryo, who handles music production, and made up of multiple illustrators and designers.

Their activities as supercell began when ryo, who had originally been posting songs using Hatsune Miku on Nico Nico Douga, connected with illustrators through those works.

Their songs have become the themes for various anime and video games and have drawn a lot of attention.

At first, ryo used the vocal synthesizer Hatsune Miku for vocals in his music production.

Because of that, he did not initially assume a human would sing the songs, and has said, “Precisely because a machine sings them, I can write lyrics that might otherwise feel embarrassing.” He is particular about using the first ideas that come to mind as they are, without unnecessary embellishment.

Yeah Oh Ahhh Oh!supercell

The commercial song for HAL College of Technology & Design (Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya).

With lyrics that shout, “Let’s become what we truly want to be,” the title’s rallying cry and edgy guitar give it the power of a cheer song.

The driving rhythm of the chorus will have your body moving before you know it.

A track from the album “Today Is A Beautiful Day.” It’s a school rock song about a student who stays true to themselves and forges their own path, free from any restraints.

With guitars and drums that drive forward as if provoking the “teacher,” and a melody that bounces around as freely as a problem child, it’s a song you’re sure to get hooked on.

The ending theme of the second season of the anime Guilty Crown.

In lyrics that overflow with the love of “me,” who struggles and agonizes for “you” yet still refuses to give up, vocalist Chilly’s husky yet powerful voice lends strength to the story the song portrays.

The opening theme of the anime Katana Gatari.

Starting with an intro reminiscent of an old-fashioned declamatory prelude, it shifts gears and accelerates straight to a fever pitch with a Japanese-style rock flavor that’s sure to get your energy up.

The lyrics are sprinkled with traditional Japanese imagery such as cherry blossoms, duels, and fleeting lives that scatter in an instant.

Heartbreak Fireworkssupercell

A breakup song I want to loudly declare deserves far more recognition.

When I listen to it, I picture the scent of summer and fireworks that tint the sky only to vanish in an instant.

The bittersweet love story—like the candied apples sold at festival stalls—feels ticklish, yet it’s so pleasant to the ear.

The awesome swirly marksupercell

A track included on the album “suprecell.” With lyrics themed around a supercell—also the Japanese translation of the group’s name—this love song fully showcases the unique potential of the Vocaloid boom.

Catchy electronic tones are sharply punctuated by drums and guitar, making it a truly “unpredictable” track.

Parade of Liarssupercell

A track from the album “supercell.” Just when you think a piercing guitar slams in from the very beginning, Hatsune Miku’s deliberately restrained vocals resound, harboring the fury of betrayal and the pain of heartbreak.

While supercell has many songs about unrequited love and sweet, bittersweet themes, this one showcases the breadth of their musical range.
