Introducing popular J-pop songs that start with “Ta”!

Have you heard of shiritori karaoke, where you connect songs by using the last letter of the previous song’s title? Surprisingly, it can get pretty exciting—sometimes you can’t think of any songs, or there aren’t as many singable ones as you expect.

So this time, I’ll introduce a bunch of Japanese songs that start with “ta.” I’ve picked popular J-POP tracks so you can use them both for karaoke and for playing shiritori using only song titles.

Please use this as a reference, and if there’s a song you’d like to try singing, go for it!

BUCK-TICK – Taiyou ni Korosareta (live) (English subbed)
Killed by the SunBUCK-TICK

When you’re feeling down or sad, some people may want to listen to songs with even more heartrending themes.

In that case, I’d like to introduce “Taiyou ni Korosareta.” This is a track released in 1991 by the visual kei rock band BUCK-TICK.

It begins with an intro that samples the sound of bells, resulting in an unsettling melody.

The lyrics sing of despair and sorrow in life.

However, in the latter half, the tempo gradually picks up and the vocals grow more powerful.

Consider what meaning might be embedded in that shift.

DiamondBUMP OF CHICKEN

Although it’s considered one of the less commercially successful songs released after their major-label debut, it has garnered steadfast support for its powerful message.

For those who are doing their best but not seeing results, I’d love for you to listen and reignite your inner strength.

The lyrics are excellent as well, likening one’s irreplaceable existence to a precious diamond.

If you struggle with self-affirmation and catch yourself thinking, “It doesn’t matter whether I’m here or not,” this is a must-listen!

To the center of the sunBivattchee(Tsutsumi Shinichi)

Shinichi Tsutsumi, from Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi Prefecture, is the vocalist of the rock band Bivattchee (pronounced “Bivatché”).

The members met at a university in Hiroshima and formed the band in 1997, eventually making their major-label debut, but they disbanded in March 2009.

Many people may remember “Taiyo no Mannaka e,” which was used as the opening theme for the TV anime Eureka Seven.

His passionate, manly storytelling and performances move audiences deeply.

He is currently the executive producer of the music production company Bon Voyage Studio and is active in a wide range of fields, including as a voice coach and actor.

Tiger & DragonCRAZY KEN BAND

The fifth single by the rock band Crazy Ken Band, who have gained popularity with a mixed sound that incorporates a wide range of genres from rock to enka.

The song has been featured in numerous tie-ins, including music programs and TV dramas, and its memorable chorus phrase really sticks in your head.

You might be tempted to sing it comically, but if you perform it earnestly, you’ll find it’s actually cool and sophisticated.

With a big chorus that everyone can sing together to get the crowd going, it’s a soulful karaoke song that you’ll want to hear men sing.

It might be just what you need to ease the loneliness of being without a partner.

This is a song by Chara, a singer known for her captivating whispery voice, released in 1997 as her 15th single.

The gentle melody and vocals are truly soothing.

The more you listen, the deeper it seeps into your heart.

The lyrics’ worldview is also rich and evocative, conveying a sense of the futility and ache that can come with love.

A song this relaxed really suits time spent alone, doesn’t it?

Fun streamline glidechara+yuki

It’s a collaborative song by singer-songwriter Chara and YUKI, the former vocalist of JUDY AND MARY, which was released in 2020 and became a hot topic.

Their first collaboration actually dates back to 1999 with “Ai no Hi 3tsu Orange.” Both Chara and YUKI have such distinctive voices that you can tell it’s them the moment you hear them.

This collaboration truly deserves to be called one-of-a-kind, resulting in a track that only they could bring to life.

This song vividly portrays a bittersweet state of mind.

Its distinctive sound—fusing band rock with electronic music—leaves a strong impression.

Released in February 2024 as Chinozo’s first work of the year, it features an addictive melody and rhythm that stick with you after a single listen, along with lyrics brimming with clever wordplay.

It expresses emotions that anyone might have experienced, interpreted in a way that’s uniquely Chinozo.

The piece delicately depicts the complexities of human relationships and the conflicts brought on by money issues.

It’s a song that discovers new value in the small moments of everyday life.
