importantFunatsu Mahiro

Masato Funatsu is a singer-songwriter from Shimane Prefecture, born in 2001.
He moved to Tokyo alone at 15 and made his major debut in 2018, channeling his own experiences and emotions into his music.
His single “Taisetsu” (“Precious”) was released in December 2022.
The song carries a heartwarming message about the small moments of everyday life and deeply moves listeners.
Its lyrics highlight the value of relationships with those close to us and prompt awareness of the “precious” things we tend to overlook in our daily routines.
Funatsu’s delicate vocals and rich melodies are perfect for commemorating cherished family moments, such as a baby’s growth record.
It’s a track especially recommended for parents watching their children grow.
treasureHanada Yuuichirou, Nagata Maya

A heartwarming song brimming with warmth has been born from “Okaasan to Issho.” Gently resonating with the harmonies of Yuuichiro Hanada and Maya Nagata, this piece tenderly explores the theme of the precious happiness found close to home.
Their clear, expansive vocals vividly paint the joyful moments nestled in everyday life.
Digitally released on October 9, 2024, the song has also been featured on the “Okaasan to Issho” program and is included on the album “NHK Okaasan to Issho Best Hyurara Bunbun!” It’s perfect not only for parents and children to enjoy together, but also for shared moments with kids in nursery schools and kindergartens.
For exampleKafu

If you want to hype up the crowd with a passionate, emotional song, this is the one.
It was used as an insert song in the film “Pompo: The Cinéphile,” and it’s sung by KAF, who’s active as a VTuber.
Released digitally in 2021, the lyrics and composition were handled by the popular Vocaloid producer Kanzaki Iori.
The breathy, striking vocal performance showcases KAF’s appeal to the fullest.
The driving band sound is seriously cool, too.
Sing this, and your karaoke session will instantly feel like a music festival.
Twilight is beautiful.Fuji Ayako

“Tasogare Kirei” is a single released in 2017 to commemorate Ayako Fuji’s 30th anniversary as a singer.
With lyrics by Yoko Aki and composition by Kosetsu Minami, “Tasogare Kirei” showcases Fuji’s seductive charm in full, leaning more toward Showa-era kayōkyoku than traditional enka.
The flowing orchestration and horns evoke the golden age of Showa pop, and the melody—infused with Kosetsu Minami’s signature style—is easy to sing even for those who aren’t fond of enka.
However, the section at the end of the chorus that feels like an ad-lib can easily throw you off in both pitch and rhythm, so pay attention to your breathing points and practice to deliver it smoothly.
No matter how…Nishino Kana

The 15th single “Tatoe Donna ni…” was featured as the song for the SONY WALKMAN “Play You.” commercial.
The lyrics, which convey feelings for a former lover and a sense of regret, may overlap with many listeners’ own memories.
Its restrained vocal tone and low key make it easy to sing, and the relaxed tempo makes it approachable to try.
However, there are occasional leaps in pitch, so be careful not to lose track of the notes, including the pitches before and after.

Adorable Hideyoshi unifies the realmChōnōryoku Senshi Dorian

This song expresses the feeling of “tottoi” (overwhelming adoration/reverence) with playful lyrics.
It’s included on Psychic Warrior Durian’s second mini-album, “Hanpa-nei Meiban,” released in April 2020.
Its worldbuilding is striking, conveying overflowing ‘oshi’ (idol/stan) feelings through historical motifs like Toyotomi Hideyoshi and the little cuckoo.
The comical, pop-tinged rock sound is another highlight.
It might be the perfect pick if you’re looking for a song everyone can sing together as entertainment at year-end or New Year parties.
Soul RevolutionOchi Shiho

The vocalist we’re introducing this time, Shiho Ochi of Superfly—her greatest appeal, above all, lies in that powerful voice that could be called anything but typically Japanese.
Even in the high parts of a song, her delivery never turns into that strained, constricted sound—truly impressive.
Many of my vocal training students admire her and aim for a voice like hers.
What’s also remarkable is that, despite the power, her singing never becomes rough in a bad way.
The song featured in the video this time, “Tamashii Revolution,” is a powerful rock track, but if you’re interested, try searching for Superfly’s ballads as well.
You’ll gain an even deeper appreciation of the charm of her voice!
