  I got totally hooked on BUMP OF CHICKEN after my best friend introduced them to me in junior high, and that’s when I woke up to music. In high school, a senior led me into the world of melodic hardcore, and I fell for it completely. After graduating from my days as a hairstylist—spent staring down wigs every day—I now work staff for studios, live houses, and wedding sound, spending my days hunting for new bands. Despite being out at festivals and shows all year round, I’m still a hopeless kid who can’t even do a two-step.

What does “taiban” mean?

Even if you get to play at a live music venue, I think it’s rare to be able to do a solo headlining show with just your own band from the very beginning.

How do you do a joint band show?

There are several ways to do a co-headlining show.

There are various ways: inviting others or being invited, getting friendly with senior or peer bands and performing together, being asked to play by bookers, event organizers, or venue staff, or reaching out and asking on your own.

Sometimes a band member who happened to drop by gets captivated by the music and invites us, saying, "Let's do a live show together!"

Until you can attract a certain number of attendees on your own, most of your live performances will likely be multi-act shows with other bands.

What's the difference between a festival and a joint/battle-of-the-bands-style show?

Different supporting acts depending on the number of people

While a live performance by a single artist is called a 'one-man live,' a live show by two bands is called atwo-man live showand refer to the live performances of three bands asthree-man livethere are times when (someone) says, “...”.

If there are four or more bands, it’s usually called a “taiban live” (a multi-band gig).

Even though it’s a four-piece band, it’s rarely called a “four-man.”
