Songs with titles that start with “te.” Perfect for shiritori karaoke or song-title shiritori!

Can you think of any words that start with “te”? There are lots, whether in Japanese or English—like “tegami” (letter), “tentai” (celestial bodies), “teen,” and “take,” to name a few.

In this article, I’ll introduce a selection of songs that start with such words—tracks with titles beginning with “te.” Feel free to use this as a hint for karaoke shiritori where you connect the last character of a song title to the next, or for shiritori played with song titles only.

Since I’m assuming you might sing them at karaoke, I’ll mainly feature well-known J-pop this time.

Genius BakabonAidoru Fō

This is the theme song of the anime The Genius Bakabon, which gained popularity in the 1970s.

Sung by The Idol Four, it’s characterized by its catchy melody and humor-filled lyrics.

It portrays everyday, ordinary events through a uniquely quirky worldview.

The single released in October 1971 also included Bakabon’s Papa.

Loved by many alongside the anime itself, it has remained popular across generations.

Celebrating free thinking unconstrained by common sense and delightfully unconventional ideas, this song is perfect when you want to relax and take a little mental break.

Why not hum along and enjoy it with a touch of nostalgia?

Astro Boyatomuzu

This is the opening theme of the 1980 version of the TV anime Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom).

It’s sung by the group Atoms.

The original Astro Boy theme song had strong choral elements, but this version features an arrangement by Nariaki Saegusa with a prominent rhythm section, giving it a strong 1980s pop influence.

Letter: Dear You at FifteenAnjura Aki

I love Angela Aki’s “Tegami ~Haikei Juugo no Kimi e~” and listen to it often, and I’ve thought, “I want to try singing it!” but I’d given up, thinking it would be impossible for someone tone-deaf like me.

However, when I actually tried singing, I was surprisingly able to sing without going off-key.

Angie – From the Attic Ceiling with Love
From the Ceiling Void, With LoveAnjī

Angie is a rock band with a cool, straight-ahead ’80s rock sound.

They made their major debut with “From the Attic With Love,” and many people probably still remember the scene where the audience held up bananas during this song (lol).

That kind of humor is part of their charm, along with their exhilarating, feel-good rock sound and melodies so catchy and familiar you can’t help but sing along.

If you were a fan listening back then, you can probably still sing them today, right?

TechnopolisIerō Majikku Ōkesutora (YMO)

Yellow Magic Orchestra – Technopolis (1979)
TechnopolisIerō Majikku Ōkesutora (YMO)

Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO)’s first single, released in October 1979 (Showa 54).

The sound of the word “Tokio,” which was likely created with a vocoder (a synthesizer that processes a voice through a microphone), is incredibly striking.

I still remember hearing this song on FM radio at the time and immediately rushing to the record store to buy it.

Listening again now to write this piece, I’m reminded of how captivating the sounds of those analog synthesizers were.

They have a certain organic expressiveness you don’t find in today’s digital synthesizers.

A classic of Japanese technopop—please enjoy!

This is the second single by the Imo-Kin Trio, who achieved one of the biggest hits within Kin-chan’s family with High School Lullaby.

This one also did fairly well.

Its choreography is particularly entertaining, keeping viewers engaged without getting bored.

T.C.K.C.urutora sushi faiyaa

Its charm lies in the unique world it creates, woven from humor-packed lyrics and a sound that fuses various musical genres.

Showcasing Ultra Sushi Fire’s distinctive flair, this track is included on a single released in 2019.

At first listen, you might think it’s just a very cool song—but the chorus takes a wildly unexpected turn.

Sing it at karaoke, and its inventive lyrics and upbeat rhythm are sure to fire up the room in no time.
