Symphonic Fantasy for Wind Ensemble: Howl’s Moving CastleGotō Hiroshi

This is a medley arranged into a symphonic fantasy based on Howl’s Moving Castle, one of Studio Ghibli’s most popular films.
Released in 2004, the movie also became famous for featuring Takuya Kimura as the voice of the wizard Howl.
Although it is a medley, its distinctive feature is that it focuses on a single film.
Throughout, it captures the movie’s mysterious, elusive atmosphere, and as you listen, it evokes a vivid sense of being transported into its scenes.
Three JaponismesMajima Toshio

This is a piece depicting three Japanese scenes.
1) In “Cranes Dancing,” percussion sound effects like the climax of a kabuki performance and trombone glissandi create a sense of exaltation.
2) “Snowy River” portrays a quietly flowing river amid falling snow.
3) “Festival” passionately expresses the spirit of the Japanese festival, the very soul of the Japanese people.
Carpenters ForeverJ.Raposo/P.Williams/R.Nichols/J.Bettis/R.Carpenter/H.David/B.Bacharach/L.Russell/B.Bramlett/F.Karlin/J.Griffin/R.Wilson

A medley that lets you enjoy the Carpenters’ timeless hits in a brilliantly crafted arrangement unique to wind band.
In this work, arranger Toshio Mashima masterfully weaves together songs by renowned creators such as Burt Bacharach and Paul Williams into a single, story-like arc.
From a grand fanfare that evokes hope for the future, to warmly resonant melodies that gently seep into the heart, and on to a climax brimming with joy, the progression grips listeners and never lets go.
This arrangement was produced in June 2015 as part of Yamaha’s sheet music series for wind band.
Blending the sparkle of pop with the power of wind ensemble, its sound adds radiant color to any concert and offers a perfect showcase for bold, stylish performance.
West Side Story MedleyIwai Naohiro

This collection also has a nostalgic feel, bringing to mind scenes from movies.
The drums and other sounds that evoke iconic film moments are very delicate and light—really nice.
We practically always performed this in middle school.
It’s a piece that’s fun to play, too.
Disney MedleyIwai Naohiro

This is truly a timeless classic—a Disney medley you just can’t leave out.
It’s something even little children can enjoy listening to.
It’s such a fun medley that it makes you want to visit Disney again.
I absolutely love this piece.
Battle Suite for Wind Ensemble “Evangelion”Sagisu Shiro / Amano Masamichi

Battle Suite for Wind Ensemble “Evangelion” is a wind band arrangement that compiles the tracks used in the battle scenes of the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.
It is a collaboration between two popular composers—Shiro Sagisu and Masamichi Amano—who work across a wide range of genres, including wind ensemble pieces, film music (such as for anime), jazz, and enka.
With its tense, battle-ready sound, the suite captivates not only anime fans but a wide audience.
Many people look back on their school band days saying, “I never watched the anime, but the music was so cool I loved it,” making this a highly impactful piece.
Carpenters ForeverMajima Toshio
It turned out to be an upbeat track that starts with surprisingly light, lively music.
There’s a saxophone solo that really draws you in.
It’s super cool and gives you chills.
I haven’t performed it myself, but it’s a piece I’d love to bring back and try playing.
It also has moments that let you listen quietly and soak it in.
