Elephant TalkKing Crimson

Included on the 1981 album Discipline, which marked the reboot of King Crimson led by Robert Fripp after his silence following the band’s breakup declaration in the ’70s.
It showcases the trickiness of Adrian Belew, who joined as guitarist and vocalist.
Belew is also known in Japan for TV commercials where he used his guitar to mimic animal sounds.
BreakthroughLemonade Mouth

This song by the fictional band of the same name from the musical film Lemonade Mouth is a fast-paced pop rock track that lifts your spirits even when you’re feeling down.
Its positive lyrics sing that even when the future looks bleak and times are tough, the day of a breakthrough—a great leap forward—will come, giving you the encouragement you need.
StandR.E.M.

A track from the album “GREEN,” released in 1988 by the veteran band who, to much regret, ceased activity in 2011.
On this album, Michael Stipe—previously noted for having hard-to-catch lyrics—began singing with clearer enunciation, and coupled with the poppy, straightforward sound, it became a major hit across the United States.
Last NightThe Vamps

This song by the British pop rock band The Vamps is a lively, upbeat track that sings, “Last night we sang and danced the night away to our favorite songs.” It’s the perfect tune to liven up a party with friends.

In Blue HawaiiBrian Wilson

A superb track that develops from a subdued tone at the beginning into a melody that evokes a bright blue sky.
It is included on Smile, the long-lost Beach Boys album that stalled in production and was finally completed about 33 years later in 2004 as a solo work by Brian, the band’s principal songwriter and central figure.
The process by which he, whose mental state had deteriorated during the original sessions 33 years earlier, found healing through completing the work and unveiling it in concert was also released as a documentary and became a major talking point.
Every Day Is A HolidayKaty Perry

This Christmas-packed song by pop singer Katy Perry was released to coincide with clothing brand H&M’s holiday campaign.
Influenced by gospel, it’s a Christmas dance track—a romantic number that sings about love being the best Christmas present of all.
Hairdresser On FireMorrissey

A track included on Morrissey’s 1990 compilation album “Bona Drag,” released during his solo career after the breakup of The Smiths.
It’s a beautiful song that shifts from a quiet piano introduction to a breezy pop tune.
After this album, he moved toward a more massive, heavier style, and this elegant, quintessentially British pop sound gradually faded into the background.
