[2026] A Beginner’s Guide to Popular Overseas Turquoise-Core Bands

Metalcore, which branched off from melodic death metal and hardcore, has become one of the central genres in the loud music scene since the 2000s.

It fuses the brutality of aggressive heavy-metal-style riffs, melodic guitar solos, and hardcore-derived breakdowns, and often showcases a vocal approach that freely shifts between death growls and clean singing—leading many bands to achieve commercial success.

Since the 2010s, metalcore has diversified even further, and the 2020s continue to see the birth of many outstanding classic albums.

In this article, we’ll introduce a wide range of overseas bands that represent the metalcore scene from multiple perspectives!

Whether it’s fair to call Underoath a metalcore band is up for debate, but there’s no question they had a massive impact on the next wave of Christian screamo-to-metalcore bands.

They released their debut album as early as 1999, and after bringing in Spencer Chamberlain as their second vocalist, the band shot to stardom with their masterpiece fourth album, 2004’s They’re Only Chasing Safety.

In 2010, Aaron Gillespie—the only original member, who handled drums and clean vocals—left the band, and they went on hiatus in 2013.

However, they resumed activities in 2015 with Aaron back in the lineup, and in 2018 they proved they were still going strong by releasing the album Erase Me.

A song by the band best known for having their vocalist Alissa poached by Arch Enemy.

It’s easy to see why Arch Enemy wanted her—she delivers an absolutely insane death growl and outstanding vocals.

The band’s songwriting and performance are also of exceptionally high caliber.

Laid to RestLamb Of God

A five-piece from Richmond, Virginia with worldwide popularity.

In fact, they’ve had a long career since the ’90s, initially performing under the name Burn the Priest.

Because of that history, they’re older than many metalcore bands that rose to prominence in the 2000s, and even on their 2000 debut album as Lamb of God, New American Gospel, they were already delivering a sound with real gravitas.

While retaining the ferocity of hardcore—their roots—they incorporate crushing riffs reminiscent of Pantera and technically adept solos in the vein of traditional heavy metal.

Their uniquely powerful brand of heavy rock is known for generating massive mosh pits at live shows.

They tour Japan regularly, so we highly recommend experiencing their concert at least once.

EndzeitHeaven Shall Burn

They are one of the flagship German metalcore bands, alongside Caliban and Maroon.

In their early days they weren’t called metalcore, but rather new school hardcore or militant hardcore.

Over a career spanning more than 20 years, while many peers shifted toward styles influenced by American bands, they never jumped on trends; instead, they stuck to their core approach and kept releasing material steadily without long hiatuses.

They’re the type that deepens rather than “evolves,” so any release is a good entry point.

A pioneering presence that skillfully integrated synth-heavy, electro-flavored sounds into metalcore and post-hardcore.

Overseas, they were disparagingly labeled “crabcore,” while in Japan they even spawned the nickname “pico-remo.” They’re also known for having had vocalist Austin Carlile, who later formed Of Mice & Men.

After Austin’s departure, the band shifted toward a more serious post-hardcore direction centered around vocalist and synthesizer player Caleb Shomo.

Even the album cover designs have a completely different vibe, so it’s quite interesting to line up their three releases and listen to them in order of release.

Among bands labeled as New School Hardcore or metalcore, Shadows Fall stood out for emphasizing their strong influence from classic heavy metal.

Brian Fair’s charisma—thrashing his long dreads—and the thrilling arrangements, where slightly melodramatic guitars intertwine while still retaining hardcore elements, are absolutely top-notch.

It’s also worth noting their brotherly relationship with fellow Massachusetts bands Killswitch Engage and All That Remains, with whom they constantly pushed each other.

Unfortunately, they went on hiatus after 2015, but every album they released is an essential classic when discussing 2000s metalcore.

A track by a band that, much like Protest the Hero, showcases progressive and highly technical musicianship.

Its defining feature is the twin-vocalist setup, with both delivering insane shouts and screams that greatly contribute to crafting a world of madness.
