A love song in Western rap
Hip-hop, the most popular genre in contemporary music.
It’s a genre that has been gaining popularity in Japan as well, but there aren’t many rappers who perform love songs.
Strictly speaking, there are rappers who do love songs, but underground rappers tend not to.
Overseas, even rappers active in the underground usually release at least one love song.
Because of that, there’s quite a range when it comes to love songs in hip-hop.
This time, we’ve picked out some hip-hop love songs from Western music.

Love songs in Western rap (11–20)
Dangerously In Love (772 Love Pt. 2)YNW Melly

The rapper YNW Melly, known for his melodious rap, has gained popularity.
His thug-style lyrics and stylish, melodic flow might seem mismatched, yet they blend perfectly.
Among his love songs, the one I especially recommend is “Dangerously In Love (772 Love Pt.
2).” It’s a track notable for its sweet beat and flow.
Although he’s facing murder charges and could receive the death penalty, I hope that if he returns, we’ll get to hear his melodic rap again.
DevastatedJoey Bada$$

Joey Bada$$, a rapper from Brooklyn, first gained popularity through YouTube in 2010, and even at the time of his debut he made waves with a fully formed style.
Now in his late twenties, he continues to attract massive props and a strong following.
Among his love songs, the one I especially recommend is Devastated.
Its lyrics paint vivid scenes, and from those scenes alone you can grasp the romantic dynamics of the characters—a work that showcases his lyrical side.
ROXANNEArizona Zervas

Arizona Zervas is a singer-songwriter from Maryland.
While his title is R&B singer-songwriter, his style incorporates many hip-hop elements, so I’m introducing him here as rap.
Among his love songs, the one I especially recommend is ROXANNE.
It blends trap and R&B, and portrays the feelings of a man who just got dumped.
It’s not a negative song at all; it conveys the determination to win her back.
If you’re a guy dealing with heartbreak, definitely give it a listen.
Love Can Be…Vince Staples

As you might guess from the hard beat with a house-music vibe, it’s a little different from the typical sweet love song.
The lyrics take a girl’s point of view with lines like “What a letdown,” and that cool, dismissive tone is oddly addictive.
Need MeJ.I.

J.I Prince of New York, a rapper gaining popularity in New York—better known simply as J.I.
He emerged on the scene in the late 2010s and continues to thrive today.
Among his love songs, one I especially recommend is Need Me.
Released in 2019, when his career was shining the brightest, it’s a classic that perfectly matches his style and persona with a sleek, stylish sound.
