A love song in Western rap
Hip-hop, the most popular genre in contemporary music.
It’s a genre that has been gaining popularity in Japan as well, but there aren’t many rappers who perform love songs.
Strictly speaking, there are rappers who do love songs, but underground rappers tend not to.
Overseas, even rappers active in the underground usually release at least one love song.
Because of that, there’s quite a range when it comes to love songs in hip-hop.
This time, we’ve picked out some hip-hop love songs from Western music.

Right by my SideNicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj, the queen of rap.
In the music video, rapper Nas appears as her love interest! And the track even features Chris Brown! It’s nice that it has a bright vibe instead of being a gloomy love song.
WorkRihanna

It was playing everywhere for a while, so many of you probably remember it.
This is a collaboration between the songstress everyone knows, Rihanna, and her ex-boyfriend, Drake, the Canadian rapper at the forefront of the hip-hop scene.
Rihanna tries to distract herself from heartbreak by throwing herself into work, while Drake’s lyrics plead, “Come back to me!”—a striking contrast.
Drake’s line, “Even if there were twins, I’d choose you,” is the best.
