YOSHIKI’s Famous and Popular Songs (1–10)

Rusty NailX JAPAN

X JAPAN – Rusty Nail(PV)
Rusty NailX JAPAN

It’s a mid-tempo rock number—though “mid-tempo” comes with the caveat that it’s mid-tempo for X JAPAN.

YOSHIKI’s compositions are said to be tough on vocalists.

He doesn’t write with singers in mind: the pitch range swings widely, and the keys are high.

Even so, TOSHI pulls it off impressively.

X JAPAN – Piano Wire in E-flat Major ~ Unfinished (Tokyo Dome 1992.01.06)
Piano wire in E-flat majorX JAPAN

It’s an instrumental piece performed solely by YOSHIKI on piano (no vocals).

Since he originally comes from a classical background, it’s only natural—but it still makes you realize just how much he can do.

Even so, it doesn’t lose the X JAPAN-style worldview, and the piece carries a somewhat sorrowful tone.

Say AnythingX JAPAN

In terms of fame, before they changed their name to X JAPAN, this was ranked quite high—perhaps even overshadowing ENDLESS RAIN.

It’s a beautiful, ballad-like song that somehow gives a sense of closure.

In fact, after the album containing this track was released, they went on to break into the overseas market.

UN-FINISHED…X JAPAN

X Japan – Unfinished [HD]
UN-FINISHED…X JAPAN

It’s a grand ballad performed with a simple instrumental arrangement.

As the title UN-FINISHED… (Unfinished) suggests, the song ends partway through.

You can hear the completed version on the album BLUE BLOOD.

Vanshing LoveX JAPAN

X JAPAN – Dear Loser / Vanishing Love (Tokyo Dome 1992.01.06)
Vanshing LoveX JAPAN

This is a work from X JAPAN’s indie days before their major-label debut.

It’s a hard, up-tempo number from X JAPAN’s heyday, with a story-like progression that’s captivating.

A melodious melody line, a clean-lined guitar solo, backing that doesn’t interfere with the vocals, and drumming with intense playing.

This is X JAPAN.

White Poem IX JAPAN

At first it might feel like someone else’s song, but it’s definitely an X JAPAN track.

They’ve even performed it live.

Unusually for the band, it’s a song made almost entirely with programming.

I feel like it reveals an unexpected side of YOSHIKI, and perhaps it influenced his compositions from this point on.

Easy Fight RamblingX JAPAN

X Japan – Easy Fight Rambling [With Backing Vocals Turned Up] With Lyrics
Easy Fight RamblingX JAPAN

It’s a rare shuffle-style song for X JAPAN.

With a bouncy feel, it showcases another possibility for X JAPAN.

It’s medium tempo within the context of X JAPAN, but by normal standards this tempo is fast.
