YOSHIKI's famous and popular songs

YOSHIKI, the leader of the legendary band X JAPAN that reshaped Japan’s rock scene, is also a songwriter who has created many timeless tracks.

From hard-hitting songs to beautiful instrumentals, we’ve put together a playlist packed with his wide-ranging musicality and richly talented songwriting.

YOSHIKI's famous and popular songs (41–50)

Rusty NailYOSHIKI

YOSHIKI, who made his mark as the drummer for X JAPAN, might be one of the most famous drummers in Japan today.

Even back then he was writing lyrics and composing, as well as playing the piano—showcasing talents beyond the drums—but I’m sure many people have seen his powerful drum performances in videos and the like.

That intensity is exactly what makes him so compelling as a drummer and what has captivated so many fans.

Also, the high-speed phrases you can hear in many X JAPAN songs are a must-listen!

Born on November 20, 1965, he is best known for his activities with X JAPAN, but he also has a deep connection with the piano and is said to have begun composing on the piano around the age of nine.

He is also credited with popularizing the transparent piano, Kawai’s CR-40A, as the YOSHIKI model.

BLUE BLOODX JAPAN

It’s one of X JAPAN’s signature songs, included on their major-label debut album.

As the album’s title track, it can be considered the culmination of X JAPAN’s work at the time.

Amid its hard, up-tempo feel, it’s characterized by a beautiful melodic line.

BREAK THE DARKNESSX JAPAN

I dug up an incredibly old X JAPAN song.

However, since it’s a self-produced EP first released during their indie days, I can’t leave it out.

This is where the legend of X JAPAN began.

If you listen to it after hearing the fully realized X JAPAN of today, you can feel the youthfulness in the music.

DAHLIAX JAPAN

This is the first track from X JAPAN’s album DAHLIA, which has made a comeback after a long time.

They didn’t let the fans down and put a quintessentially X JAPAN song at the front.

Melodic vocal lines, hard guitar sound, and speedy drumming—this is a track that was worth the wait.

Am I the only one who felt there are a lot of ballads on the album DAHLIA? It might be inevitable given the members’ ages, though.

That said, X JAPAN is a band that churns out hits even with ballads.

They’re beautiful ballads in YOSHIKI’s distinctive, slightly classical style.

This song is also a ballad.

When there are so many famous ballads, they often start to feel similar, but in YOSHIKI’s pieces each song has its own well-crafted drama and stands on its own.

I think that seems simple but is actually difficult to achieve.
