Yuzu’s greatest and most popular songs

We’d like to introduce songs by Yuzu, a classic J-pop artist.

Their music is now heard in a variety of settings, and they’re a very popular act.

As a folk duo that performs with just instruments like acoustic guitar and tambourine plus vocals, many people likely practiced their songs when they first started doing acoustic covers.

It’s said that their unit name, Yuzu, comes from the yuzu sherbet they ate at a staff meal for a part-time job they worked at together.

They have many bright, catchy tunes, and plenty you’ll recognize, making them perfect for karaoke.

Why not try practicing with this playlist?

Yuzu’s classic and popular songs (101–110)

Departure Numberyuzu

A track from Yuzu’s fifth album, Sumire.

It was featured in commercials for Kateikyōshi no Try (Try Group tutoring).

The song is about facing forward without yielding to doubt or giving up, gaining various things along the way, and aiming even higher.

Since it was written and composed by Iwasawa, it is one of the most difficult songs to sing.

Recommended for those who want to overcome challenges and further grow themselves.

Song of lingering attachmentyuzu

It’s the coupling track released with “Tomodachi no Uta” in 1999.

Written and composed by Yujin Kitagawa, it falls into the “dark/obsessive love” category among his love songs.

Although Kitagawa now has a wholesome image, back when he was younger—likely having experienced many romances—he wrote songs like this too.

It really captures the lingering feelings of a man who can’t let go.

swanyuzu

The song “Swan,” included on the album “1 ~ONE~” released in 2004, is a track that seems to sing about life and death and the human experience.

It was created after Yujin Kitagawa’s grandmother passed away, filled with feelings directed toward her.

We all wish our grandparents could stay healthy forever, but when the time comes to say goodbye to them, an overwhelming sadness will surely come.

Like this song, we’d want to send them off gently and peacefully.

Look Up at the Night Stars ~Our Song~yuzu

Yuzu is well known as a Japanese folk duo with hit songs like “Natsuiro” and “Eikou no Kakehashi.” Their track “Miagete Goran Yoru no Hoshi wo ~Bokura no Uta~,” released as a digital-only single, is a cover of a number from the musical “Miagete Goran Yoru no Hoshi wo.” It’s also widely known that Kyu Sakamoto covered the song in 1963.

The lyrics, which encourage us to look up at the night stars and stop worrying about trivial things, are uplifting to listen to.

Incidentally, the CD audio of this song is only included on their best-of album and not on any of their original albums, making it a rare find.

slope; sloping road; hill roadyuzu

A perfect song for a fresh start is Yuzu’s “Sakamichi.” Let’s let this tune’s lively rhythm and bright melody give us a hand.

If things get awkward, if the party vibe turns chilly—just blast it and power through.

Feel free to rattle a tambourine, too.

Letteryuzu

This song is included on Yuzu’s first original album, Yuzzu Ikka, and was released in 1998.

Although it’s an album track, it’s performed frequently at live shows.

In the middle of the song there’s a section where a letter is read aloud, and at concerts it has become customary for vocalist Kitagawa to read a letter to the audience.

This staging is well known among fans, and some people attend specifically to enjoy it.

It’s a very popular song with fans.

bridge to gloryyuzu

Eikou no Kakehashi – Yuzu (Full)
bridge to gloryyuzu

This is the 21st single by the folk duo Yuzu, chosen in 2004 as the official theme song for NHK’s Athens Olympics coverage.

Its powerful lyrics, evoking athletes’ efforts and the path to glory, and its catchy, beautiful choral work make it a song that truly resonates.

When you’re striving for something, there are hurdles and painful, difficult times, but this track gives you a push, telling you that there is always light waiting at the end of the journey.

It’s a song I recommend listening to when you feel stressed or uncertain at work.
