Fun to make! Fun to play with! Here are some ideas for boomerang paper airplanes.

All you need is origami paper in your favorite colors and patterns.

These origami ideas are perfect for enjoying with a 2-year-old.

By making boomerang paper airplanes with your favorite origami and flying them, children can develop fine motor skills.

Watching them fly and return is exciting and so much fun for kids! Be careful not to run out into the street or bump into furniture while chasing the paper airplanes.

It’s a wonderful idea that deepens learning naturally through play as you make them together with an adult.

A spinning top made with paper plates and origami

[Craft] Spinning top [Paper plate] [Ages 1+ ] [Easy]
A spinning top made with paper plates and origami

You can make it with paper plates and plastic bottle caps! Here’s a recommended spinning top craft for 1-year-olds.

Fold a paper plate into a cross shape, then place a cap in the center and trace its outline.

Tear up chiyogami or origami paper, apply glue to the paper plate, and stick the pieces on.

If your child has trouble tearing, making small starter cuts will help.

Fold any overhanging edges to the back, and finally attach double-sided tape to the cap and stick it in the center of the paper plate to finish! There are lots of ways to arrange the patterns, so 1-year-olds can have plenty of fun just doing the decorating.

Hoppy Frog and Rabbit

[Origami] So Easy! Jumping Frog & Rabbit <How to Fold / How to Make> [Easter Craft] Origami Jumping Rabbit and Jumping Frog
Hoppy Frog and Rabbit

How about making some hopping fun with a “boing-boing” frog and rabbit? Adults can put these together easily, so they’re great when you want a quick little toy.

Fold the top and bottom of the origami paper to meet the center line, then fold the left and right sides the same way to make a square.

Next, fold the left and right sides to the center line again, then fold the paper in half along the horizontal center line.

Fold it in half once more the same way, then pinch the edge and open it slightly so that, when viewed from the side, it looks like a question mark (?).

Finally, decorate it so it looks like a frog and a rabbit, and you’re done! Gently press the raised part to make them hop and play.

Magic Spiral Cube

[Playable Origami] Surprisingly Easy! Stretchy and Fun! How to Fold a Magic Spiral Cube [Origami] Playable Simple Craft
Magic Spiral Cube

At first glance, the “Magic Spiral Cube” looks like nothing more than overlapping flat squares, but if you hold both ends and pull while twisting, amazingly, everything transforms into cubes! For a two-year-old, you could put a little face at the beginning of the cube to make it look like a caterpillar—they’d probably love it.

First, use a single sheet of origami paper to make one part.

Make as many parts as needed to reach your desired length.

It’s complete once you stack and assemble the parts, but the process is a bit intricate—you’ll need to open parts to overlap them, or lift just a section to tuck it in.

Assemble it step by step, checking each stage as you go.

finger trap

How about making a “finger trap” out of origami that snaps shut when you press it? It’s a very simple toy, but it feels almost alive and you’ll want to play with it over and over.

Up to a certain point, you’ll make the same creases as when folding a crane.

Once the creases are in place, make four cuts with scissors, then fold it into a shuriken (throwing star) shape.

Fold the corners inward, raise the center along the crease lines, and it’s done.

When you press the center, the sharp points around the edge will snap at your finger!

Twirl Whistle

[1st Kurukuru Whistle] Make and play together as parent and child! Easy craft!
Twirl Whistle

You know those kids’ whistle toys called blowouts? When you blow into the tube, the coiled paper bag straightens out, and when you stop blowing, it curls back.

This “Twirl Whistle” is an idea for making that blowout using origami! Make the bag part by folding a rectangular sheet of origami paper.

Cut a straw in half and insert it into the bag.

Fold in the left and right corners and tape them down so air doesn’t leak.

Once you roll up the bag part, it’s done!

A simple mechanism that’s so much fun! Here’s a paper helicopter idea.

All you need is origami paper cut to half size and a pair of scissors.

It’s an origami idea with a fascinating, mysterious way of flying! Cut the origami paper in half, then make slits with scissors as you fold.

The finished paper helicopter twirls and flutters as it falls, which is really entertaining.

Instead of flying high, you enjoy watching it drift down slowly, so it’s safe and suitable even for two-year-olds.

It’s simple, yet the movement is very unique, making it something you’ll want to play with over and over again.
