Scrap-wood Archery

Make and play with everyday materials! Here are some ideas for upcycled archery.
You’ll need: a paper tube, an awl, a straw, rubber bands, paper cups, tissue paper, and scissors.
First, use the awl to make a hole in the paper tube.
Cut off the accordion part of the straw, then ball up some tissue paper and attach it to the tip.
Cut a notch at the back of the straw where you can hook a rubber band, and you’re done! Stack paper cups to make a target.
Insert the straw into the hole in the paper tube, hook the rubber band, and launch.
Try experimenting with different ways to shoot!
Handmade camera

Why not use an empty box to make your very own toy camera? It won’t actually take pictures, so once it’s finished, you could put some photos you took beforehand inside the camera’s box body.
If you get creative with colors and patterns as you decorate it, you’ll end up with a super cute camera.
This craft is suitable for lower elementary school children.

Let’s make a magnetic board that also works as a blackboard.

Did you know you can easily make a chalkboard? When we think of chalkboards, we picture the big ones in schools, but these days you can buy small sheet-type ones at 100-yen shops, so you can make a chalkboard incredibly easily.
You can also get chalk and erasers at 100-yen shops.
Just prepare a board of the same size and stick the sheet on, and you’ve got a small chalkboard! Having one at home is practical and useful, isn’t it? If you want to make a larger chalkboard, you can find chalkboard paint and the like at home improvement stores, too.
Marble golf at the 100-yen shop

Maybe some of your friends even take real golf lessons.
Here, we’ll introduce a “marble golf course” you can play on a desk.
It’s fun because you get to make it and then play with it! You’ll need a green mat, colored felt, wooden sticks, and marbles.
First, craft a fairway by shaping light-green felt on top of the mat.
A fairway is the area in the middle of a golf course covered with short grass.
You can also add bunkers, slopes, and anything else you like.
If you attach magnets across the sheet and felt, you can turn it into a shape-shifting golf course! After that, just make a golf-club-like tool from a wooden stick.
Do you have any aunts or uncles who play golf? If you do, ask them for tips and make your summer craft even better!
shrink plastic

Charms made from shrink plastic are lovely too.
You’ll need shrink plastic sheets, and a keychain ring or a charm cord.
First, draw your favorite design on the shrink plastic.
Anime or manga characters are fine, too.
Cut it out with scissors.
Shrink plastic is quite hard, so ask for help if you can’t cut it yourself.
Bake the cutout in a toaster oven.
Let the baked piece cool, then thread a cord through the hole and it’s done.
If you need a hole, punch it before baking with a hole punch.
Adding a small bell or some beads could be cute as well!
food sample

The food samples displayed at town diners and department store restaurants can be so well made that you might mistake them for the real thing.
On the other hand, the ones that look obviously fake are also endearing.
So why not try making a shaved ice food sample? You’ll need a shaved ice bowl, paper clay, red paint, white paint, and epoxy adhesive.
The epoxy adhesive will serve as the transparent “ice” portion.
The basic process is simple: shape a base with the paper clay, then layer on the epoxy adhesive to form the ice.
It could be fun to invite some friends and make them together.
There are plenty of tutorial videos on making food samples, so be sure to check them out for reference!
Let’s make a squishy.

Making squishies you can play with over and over is also a great idea for an independent study project.
Squishies are toys with a soft, fluffy feel.
You’ve probably seen squishies that look just like real food.
Since you’ll be making your own this time, enjoy taking the time to think about what kind of food-themed squishy you want to create.
Another fun point is that you can customize them depending on your ideas.
For example, you could use slime to represent stretchy cheese, or make one where something pops out when you press it—that sounds fun too.
In conclusion
We introduced craft ideas using items from 100-yen shops.
There are lots of cute and character-themed options, and there are surely even more items you can use for crafting.
Why not use these ideas to create original pieces that will wow everyone around you? It’s also fun to make them together with friends!
