Pokémon Sword and Shield: ‘Christmas Persuasion’ Edition

[Pokémon] Masaki Okada and Haraichi’s Sawabe make a cute request?

The commercial “Christmas Persuasion” for the hugely popular Pokémon game series, beloved by both adults and children, features the eighth installment, Sword and Shield, released in 2019.

In this ad, actor Masaki Okada and comedy duo Haraichi’s Yu Sawabe appear as children.

With Christmas approaching, Sawabe pleads with his mom to buy him a Pokémon game, while Okada coaches him from the shadows on what to say for maximum effect.

“I’ll study hard if you buy it,” “I’m asking just this once,” and other suggestions come rapid-fire from Okada, and Sawabe puts each one to good use.

McDonald’s commercials are often uniquely inventive, aren’t they? Among them, the Beef Stew Pie ad is irresistibly funny because of its parody song! In this commercial, Kohei Otomo, the lead vocalist of the rock band HOUND DOG, rewrites the lyrics of their signature song “ff (Fortissimo)” to be about the pie, and it never fails to make me laugh.

Otomo’s striking persona makes the commercial incredibly memorable—it’s perfect casting, isn’t it?

Taisei Corporation “Makoto Shinkai × Sukima Switch” Collaboration CM

A commercial for Taisei Corporation featuring a collaboration between director Makoto Shinkai—known for Your Name and Weathering with You—and the duo Sukima Switch.

Sukima Switch’s song “Mr.

Kite” was used, and in the TV-aired “Singapore” version, the voice of the protagonist, AYANO, was performed by Masami Nagasawa.

On Taisei Corporation’s official website, a special collaboration movie has been released that compiles four works: the Singapore version, the Bosphorus Strait Tunnel version, the Sri Lanka Expressway version, and the Vietnam Noi Bai version.

The animated portrayal of people working at Taisei Corporation is so captivating that it feels as if it could be a new Shinkai film.

Nissin Donbei: “Sazae is the Don-Gitsune” Edition

In Nissin’s Donbei commercial “Sazae as Dongitsune,” none other than the beloved anime characters Sazae-san and Masuo-san make an appearance! They reenact the exchanges previously done by Gen Hoshino and Riho Yoshioka as the fox spirit, Dongitsune.

When Sazae-san becomes Dongitsune, she reacts in pain as if she herself is being eaten whenever Masuo-san eats Donbei.

Even when told, “Don’t worry about it,” Masuo-san can’t help but worry and can’t eat.

In the end, the regular Sazae-san returns, surprising Masuo-san.

Even the Nissin logo turns into Sazae-san’s silhouette, startling Masuo-san once again.

The charm lies in the gap between the singer’s tough-looking appearance and the gentle sound, as well as the way the explanation of the product seems like it’s explaining something yet feels a bit light on substance.

It features Hiroshi Fujioka and Maximum the Hormone, and its one-of-a-kind, outlandish development really stands out.

Fujioka plays a recorder that shoots fireworks, over a melody reminiscent of sutra chanting, then it suddenly accelerates and morphs into the hard rock that Hormone does best.

In the performance scenes, Fujioka joins the members of Hormone on recorder.

Partway through, animation is added as well, and in the end Fujioka joins in for Hormone’s metal pose.
