Charm Explosion! A Roundup of Japanese Three-Piece Bands [Great for Cover Bands Too!] (61–70)
Kill meSUNNY CAR WASH

With light, airy guitar rock, slightly offbeat lyrics, and an unadorned vocal style, SUNNY CAR WASH captivates with a deeply human musicality.
The band formed in 2016.
At first listen, they might sound like laid-back music, but once you notice the allure of their sound—one that feels like their hearts laid bare—there’s no turning back.
SUNNY CAR WASH’s songs are the kind you’ll always want to keep close at hand.
BravoThe Pīzu

Formed in 1987, the rock band The Pees is also a three-piece rock outfit.
Although they went on hiatus in 1997, they resumed activities in 2002 and have continued ever since, undergoing a few lineup changes along the way—an accomplished band with real chops.
Their music is rooted in punk, and frontman/bassist Atsuyuki Oki’s relaxed, natural vocal style is particularly striking.
In addition to the raw edge typical of punk, their songs also carry a certain warmth—that’s part of their appeal! Vocalist Oki is actually the older twin brother of TOMOVSKY!
Rise Abovedustbox

Armed with a piercing high-tone voice and a driving beat propelled by drums and bass, the three members of dustbox deliver a host of songs that could be considered textbook melodic hardcore.
Active since 1996, they saw original member and drummer REIJI depart in 2015, with YU-KI joining afterward, and they’ve continued on as a three-piece band.
Their appeal lies not only in those quintessential melodic hardcore tunes mentioned above, but also in the metallic guitar riffs they occasionally unleash and the tight, intricately filled drumming heard throughout their songs.
They don’t just stop at straight-up melodic hardcore—that’s what makes them so compelling.
It’s your fault.the peggies

the peggies are a girls’ band whose weapon is a high-sense sound that blends cuteness and coolness.
If you watched the anime Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, you might know them from the theme song Kimi no Sei.
Perhaps because the band was formed by classmates when they were in middle school and has continued ever since, their sound image has a strong sense of unity.
vital signsKuramubon

Clammbon is a three-piece band consisting of Ikuko Harada, Mito, and Daisuke Ito.
Centered around piano-and-vocal performances, they’re a rock band that crafts a unique Clammbon sound by layering tones in ways a guitar can’t replicate.
They’re active across many fields, from commercial tie-ins and corporate or TV program theme songs to writing songs for other artists.
You might just find the perfect cover for a guitar-less band!
magicHAWAIIAN 6

HAWAIIAN6 initially started out as a Hi-STANDARD cover band.
Back then, especially among three-piece bands, everyone aimed for and looked up to Hi-Standard (lol).
Despite some lineup changes, they’ve continued as a trio with Yuta Yasuno on guitar and vocals, Naofumi Uemura on bass, and Yukihiro Hatano on drums.
Their melodic punk that occasionally tugs at your heartstrings could be called the HAWAIIAN6 style—a punk band with enduring appeal.
dreamkarasu

Karasu is a three-piece band perfectly suited to words like “emo rock” and “surging shouts.” The members are Junichi Konno (vocals/guitar), Yuki Furuya (bass), and Shuta Chiba (drums).
Although they are based in Akita Prefecture, they’re active nationwide.
Their major-label debut single “Yume,” released in 2009, drew attention as the theme song for the TV drama Uramiya Honpo REBOOT, and it became a hot topic thanks in part to the show’s popularity.
