Charm Explosion! A Roundup of Japanese Three-Piece Bands [Perfect for Cover Bands, Too!] (91–100)
DIARY KEYBase Ball Bear

Base Ball Bear is a rock band formed in 2001 that made its major-label debut in 2006.
They performed as a four-piece for many years from their formation, but guitarist Shohei Yuasa left the band in 2016, and they have continued as a three-piece ever since.
In addition to having many songs characterized by refreshing vocals and guitar sounds, their uniquely Base Ball Bear chord progressions are also a distinctive and appealing feature of their music.
When you’re in the mood for clean, crisp tracks, their songs are a perfect fit!
Beyond the TearsSTEREOPONY
The girls’ three-piece band STEREOPONY, affectionately known as “Stepone,” made their major debut in 2008 with three members: AIMI on guitar and vocals, NOHANA on bass, and SHIHO on drums.
Sadly, they disbanded in 2012.
They produced many hits, including themes for anime and dramas.
Notably, their debut single “Hitohira no Hanabira,” released in 2008, became a hit as the ending theme for the anime BLEACH.
Carry on the strugglesoko ni naru

Sokoninaru is a three-piece rock band known for a slightly edgy sound that draws on prog and alternative styles.
On their YouTube channel, they run a series called “Sokoninaru Light Music Club,” where they cover various songs—and it’s absolutely jaw-dropping.
Their arrangements will make you think, “Are just three people really playing this?” Each member’s performance skills are outstanding.
Their original songs are excellent as well, so I highly recommend them to music lovers—especially those who play instruments themselves.
owltsubaki

Formed in 2000, they released six recordings independently.
In 2005, they made their major-label debut with the single “Yesterday’s Wind.” Their quirky band name—bearing the camellia, the official flower of vocalist Isshiki’s hometown, Matsuyama in Ehime Prefecture—and their introspective, negative lyrics were distinctive, but after going major their songs began to feature more positive themes.
As a three-piece, they strip away all excess to deliver simple, refined rock, and are a band expected to achieve even greater success going forward.
Sophisticated LoveAnalogfish

They’re a three-piece rock band active since 1999.
Their stylish sound is a major draw, and both bassist Sasaki and guitarist Shimooka handle lyric writing; depending on who wrote the lyrics, the lead vocalist changes.
For fans, getting to hear a variety of voices from song to song is one of the fun parts!
To youBUZZ THE BEARS

BUZZ THE BEARS is a three-piece rock band formed in Osaka in 2002.
Their appeal lies in the heartfelt, emotive qualities packed into a refreshing, high-speed melodic hardcore approach.
Depending on the song, that emotion shows up in the lyrics, in the overall mood, or in the phrasing of each part—but as you listen, you’ll feel a fire light up deep in your chest.
Their melodies and atmospheres are also outstanding, with plenty of undeniably cool tracks, so start by checking out a few songs.
If you’re into rock bands, you’ll almost certainly get hooked.
2006ma℃ister

Let me introduce the appeal of ma℃ister, a rock band based in Osaka.
The trio consists of vocalist/guitarist Sakura Taniguchi, bassist/backing vocalist Hibiki Ai, and drummer Seitaro.
Their sound is rooted in rock while incorporating diverse elements like pop, punk, and hard rock.
Centered around live performances, they actively tour across Japan, winning fans with their energetic stage presence.
They also release music on streaming services and indie band platforms.
With an original and eclectic musical style, they’re especially popular among younger listeners.
Highly recommended not only for musicians, but for anyone looking to discover something new.
