If you’re going to really enjoy a sports day, tug-of-war is a must! Everyone pulls the rope with all their might and works together as a team.

It’s such a simple event that even little kids can join in.

As children move up to the middle and senior kindergarten years, they learn to pull in sync with everyone else, and from a teacher’s or parent’s perspective, it’s a great event to see how much they’ve grown.

Borrowed Item Race

Borrowed Item Race

The borrowing race, where participants proceed by borrowing items written on paper, is a classic sports day event! Spice things up with fun items like oversized pants or a portable shrine to liven up the day.

You can designate items prepared in advance by the school, but it’s also recommended to choose items that are easy to borrow from the audience, such as handkerchiefs, parasols, or hats.

However, to avoid causing trouble with overly specific instructions, make sure to select items that can definitely be gathered at the sports day venue.

This time, let’s try some variations—like using a lower basket or aiming for the basket on the back of a running opponent.

With these twists on the traditional game, children are sure to get even more excited.

It really makes an impact visually! Here’s a soccer idea using “dekapan.” Dekapan is a race commonly seen at school sports days where two people form a pair and wear an oversized pair of pants together.

This time, let’s have a parent and child wear the dekapan, kick a ball, and aim for the goal.

If you split into teams—like Red Team and White Team—and start at the same time, you can compete for speed.

Through racing in dekapan, children can develop perseverance and a healthy focus on winning and losing.

Balloon Basketball

Even kids who aren’t comfortable with hard balls can give it a try! Here’s a balloon basketball idea.

Basketball is a ball sport played on a rectangular court where you use a ball and try to score by putting it through a hoop, right? Many of you have probably seen games on TV.

This time, let’s make a ball using a balloon and vinyl tape, and have a shooting contest with a parent or guardian.

For the hoop, a cut-out piece of cardboard works well.

You can adjust the height of the hoop to keep it fun and engaging without getting bored!
