As the sports day approaches, children are filled with excitement, aren’t they?

Here, we’ll introduce recommended songs for dances that will get the kids moving with energy!

From timeless classics to the latest hits, we’ve got a fun lineup.

For the oldest kids especially, this will be their last sports day.

It’s also a valuable chance for parents and guardians to see how hard they’ve practiced.

Please find some wonderful songs to liven up the children’s big moment.

On the day of the event, let’s all get along and make fun memories together!

Recommended for kindergarten seniors! Dance songs for sports day (21–30)

PopopopoposeGReeeeN

There’s a song called “Popo Popo Pose” that seems like it would make practice more fun.

It’s an original piece GReeeeN wrote for the show “Inai Inai Baa!” The song is designed so you strike various poses to match the lyrics.

There are also four sections where you do a signature pose.

It could be fun to let kids come up with their own poses for those parts.

I’d love for them to enjoy the process, including thinking it over and discussing it—like, “What kind of pose should we do?”

Doraemon, a favorite among many children, is also a great recommendation.

This is a song Gen Hoshino wrote specifically for the feature-length film of the anime Doraemon with the same title.

It’s also well-loved as the opening theme for the TV series.

The comical words that evoke the anime’s world lift the listener’s mood.

Since there are many sections where the same notes continue throughout, choreography with handclaps or small, repeated movements would likely fit well.

When you repeat the same movements, there’s a fun sense of being able to move your body freely without overthinking it.

Toshihiko Niizawaundōkai no hīrō

Sports Day Heroes (Toshihiko Shinzawa’s Sparkling Sports Day)
Toshihiko Niizawaundōkai no hīrō

As a lively song to energize a sports day, Toshihiko Shinzawa’s piece is a perfect fit.

With its bright, lighthearted melody and catchy rhythm, it’s great for kids to dance to.

The lyrics depict scenes of a sports day held under a blue sky and praise the children taking on the events as heroes.

Included on the 2013 album “Toshihiko Shinzawa’s Sparkling Sports Day,” it’s popular with preschoolers and elementary school students.

Featuring a variety of actions, it’s ideal for performances at sports day.

It’s often used for openings, cheering, and during events, and is widely adopted in schools and preschools.

For the final sports day of the oldest kindergarteners, let’s all dance with energy and make it a day to remember!

Upbeat songs are perfect for sports day dances, too.

My recommendation is “Hashire!” (“Run!”).

It’s a track released by the idol group Momoiro Clover Z.

In the lyrics, feelings of excitement and longing for someone are expressed through the act of running.

So incorporating running movements should match the song well.

There’s also a section that samples handclaps, so I hope you’ll add handclaps there and enjoy the sense of unity.

Under the SeaRitoru Māmeido

Autumn Sports Day: Ume Class (4-year-olds) Performance “Under the Sea”
Under the SeaRitoru Māmeido

With its pleasant calypso rhythm, this song is brimming with the joys of the ocean world.

Featured in Disney’s 1989 animated feature film, it was cheerfully performed by the little mermaid’s crab friend and went on to win both an Academy Award and a Grammy.

The version covered by miwa in 2017 for the Sokenbicha commercial also leaves a strong impression with its bright, lighthearted feel.

Its melody is perfect for school sports day dance time, and the 2/4 rhythm naturally brings smiles as children can’t help but sway along.

Lively and fun for everyone to dance to, this energetic piece is sure to liven up any sports day.

Brother BeatSnow Man

It’s a pop song that bursts with brightness and energy right from the start, sure to give viewers a boost.

Throughout the piece—and especially in the chorus—it’s great how a slightly comical, memorable dance is woven in.

Fun highlights include everyone syncing up with poses like a “Shee!” stance and calls like “Ah-hoo!” There’s also a simplified dance video that’s easy for preschoolers to try, so be sure to check it out for reference.

Super Mario

Super Mario

Mario Brothers is beloved by both parents and kids.

Let’s dance to this routine set to a beat-driven Mario Brothers theme.

The easy-to-learn choreography and the part where you can choose the moves of your favorite character make it especially fun.

There are hip-hop inspired sections too, and the cool vibe will get kids grooving.

Once you’ve learned the moves, you might find yourself dancing along to the music at home while playing the game—this track is that much fun.
