Tulips are one of the flowers that represent spring.

Many older adults probably think of tulips when they think of spring flowers.

So let’s make lots of origami tulips and decorate an entire wall.

Cut two sheets of origami paper roughly in half, then fold each piece in half again.

Cut them into petal shapes and glue them together.

Tulips come in many colors, so try making them in the colors your seniors prefer.

Attach the stems and leaves you’ve made to the tulip flowers to complete them.

If you also make butterflies out of origami and add them, it will enhance the spring atmosphere.

Here’s a frame arrangement using materials you can get at a 100-yen shop.

Display it by your front door or in a room to easily bring a sense of spring.

All you need is a frame and artificial flowers.

First, remove the back panel of the frame and check the size.

When attaching the artificial flowers to the back panel, be careful not to let them overlap the edges, or the frame won’t close.

Decide on a layout with a focal flower in the center and surrounding flowers, then trim the stems and attach them slightly inward so the back can close.

If you can close it without crushing the flowers, you’re done.

Here’s how to make an easy and cute tulip using chenille stems (pipe cleaners).

Prepare two chenille stems in your favorite color for the petals and two green ones for the leaves.

Fold each stem in half, stack the folded points together, twist them, then align the ends with the knot at the top.

Twist the aligned part to secure it—this completes the leaf.

For the flower, twist once at the center while the stems are still aligned, then fold up again and twist to secure.

Round the shapes, and curl the extended ends to form the petals.

Make three identical petal pieces and glue them together to complete the flower.

Attach the flower and leaves to a plastic stick to finish your chenille-stem tulip.

Wrapping it or bundling several together into a bouquet makes it even more decorative.

Here’s a spring-like strawberry wreath you can make with supplies from a 100-yen shop.

First, prepare the wreath base.

Apply glue and wrap yarn around it so there are no gaps.

For the strawberries, use red felt—you can also use red gingham fabric.

Cut the felt into circles, then fold each circle in half and cut.

Stitch small seed patterns with thread.

Fold each half-circle in half again, sew along the top edge, open it once to stuff with filling, then close it up.

Make the calyx from green felt and glue it on to finish the strawberry.

Use more green felt for leaves and white felt for flowers, then glue them onto the wreath to complete it.

The arrangement can create many different looks, so you’ll end up with a unique wreath of your own.
