April is the season for starting nursery and moving up a grade.

Here are some craft ideas that children can enjoy in April.

Let’s create crafts using children’s handprints! Here are some handprint butterfly ideas.

Art made with children’s handprints turns into wonderful keepsakes.

The charm is that by taking their handprints, you can preserve their growth and a moment in time as a record! Use your child’s favorite paint colors and enjoy making it in a fun atmosphere.

What you’ll need: construction paper, paint, pipe cleaners, tape, scissors, glue, and a pen.

It would also be fun to display butterflies made with teachers’ or guardians’ handprints side by side with the children’s.

Tulip made by gluing origami pieces

Here’s how to make a tulip by tearing and pasting origami paper.

Gather origami paper, construction paper, crayons, glue, and scissors.

Tear the origami paper by hand or cut it with scissors to create small shapes.

Glue the pieces onto the construction paper, trying to place them so there are as few gaps as possible.

Arrange and glue together pieces with similar patterns and colors so they are close to each other, then cut them into the shape of a tulip and paste it onto the backing paper.

Finish by drawing the stem, leaves, and other details around it with crayons.

Fold-Only Tulip

Let me introduce an easy “fold-only” tulip that also works as a three-dimensional wall decoration.

Prepare patterned origami paper, construction paper, crayons, glue, and scissors.

Cut the construction paper into circles in pairs and fold each circle in half.

By using construction paper in different colors, you can enjoy variations in the tulip’s flower color.

Glue the tulip’s center piece cut from the patterned origami together with the pair of folded petals, and your tulip flower is complete.

Draw leaves with crayons to create a springlike tulip!

Let’s make use of familiar materials! I’ll show you an idea for creating cherry blossoms using a newspaper stamp.

You’ll need drawing paper, crayons, newspaper, paint, and a paper plate.

First, use crayons to draw the cherry tree trunk on the drawing paper.

Next, put some paint on the paper plate.

A single color looks nice, but I recommend using two colors so you can enjoy the way they blend.

Finally, pick up some paint with a crumpled piece of newspaper and dab it onto the paper—stamp, stamp—and you’ll have a tree full of cherry blossoms!

Spring Stroll Bag

Introducing a handmade walk bag for storing the treasures you find on your strolls.

Prepare a zippered storage bag, round stickers and washi tape, raffia tape (suzuran tape), felt-tip pens, and cloth duct tape.

Stick a strip of duct tape with the child’s name on the front of the storage bag in a visible spot.

Decorate the surface of the bag freely with round stickers and washi tape.

Reinforce the upper left and right edges of the bag by sandwiching them with duct tape, then use a hole punch to make holes.

Braid the raffia tape to a length that fits over the children’s shoulders, thread it through the holes in the bag, and you’re done.

Spring hanging scroll

We’ll introduce how to make a spring hanging scroll that brightens up your room with a spring-like touch.

Prepare branches, construction paper, tissue paper, tapioca straws, glue, and scissors.

After choosing the color of the construction paper for the base of the hanging scroll, glue a branch onto white construction paper to set the center of the cherry tree.

Glue tissue paper onto circles cut from construction paper, then attach them around the branch.

By using pink for the cherry blossoms and green for the leaves as they start to appear, you can express the changing of the seasons.

Glue tapioca straws to the top and bottom of the hanging scroll, thread a string through, and it’s complete! It’s also great for spring wall displays.

Introducing fluffy paint for drawing springtime art that makes you want to touch the puffy parts.

Prepare shaving foam, liquid laundry glue, paint, plastic cups, plastic spoons, and drawing paper.

Sketch your picture on the paper beforehand.

In a plastic cup, combine shaving foam and liquid glue in a 1:1 ratio and mix.

Add paint to color it, then use a plastic spoon to place the foamy paint onto your sketched drawing.

When it dries, you’ll have a cute, puffy spring picture! Once dry, you can touch it, so enjoy the fun texture—give this charming and magical craft a try!
