Because these festivals are hosted by the artists themselves, you can feel the bonds and connections between artists, as well as their passion for the festivals.

Shimane Jet Fes: Yamata-no-Orochi RisingSat 10/11–Sun 10/12, Shimane Prefecture

An event hosted by the rock band Guitar Wolf, held under the slogan of “rock” at an ancient burial mound (kofun). In keeping with the historical setting of the kofun venue, the stages are given history-themed names such as Yamata no Orochi. Music festivals set against the backdrop of a kofun are quite rare, so even seasoned festival-goers may find this a fresh and enjoyable experience.

Kyoto Music ExpoSat 10/11–Sun 10/12, Kyoto Prefecture

This is an event hosted by Quruli that has been held annually in their hometown of Kyoto since 2007. Over the years, audiences have enjoyed a compelling lineup featuring artists from Japan and abroad, crossing genre boundaries. When in-person events weren’t possible due to COVID-19, they kept the event going by taking on the challenge of online live performances. Highlights include distinctive production and a carefully curated lineup that reflect their unwavering dedication to music. Be sure to experience it live if you can.

Mt.FUJIMAKISat, 9/27 – Yamanashi Prefecture

Mt. FUJIMAKI is an outdoor festival held in Yamanakako Village, Yamanashi Prefecture. It’s hosted by Ryota Fujimaki, the guitarist and vocalist of Remioromen. As a native of Yamanashi, Fujimaki aims to stir up a new breeze from Mt. Fuji through music—an event filled with that passion.
