Man’s BluesMifune Hiroshi

These days, it’s unfortunately become common to think that being able to sing high notes is the mark of an attractive vocalist, but there was a time when singers with low voices were admired and popular.

One such artist was Hiroshi Mifune, known by the epithet “The Enchanting Low Notes.” Born in Niigata Prefecture, Mifune began his path as a singer after being chosen to represent Niigata in NHK’s Nodo Jiman contest.

His signature song, “Otoko no Blues” (“A Man’s Blues”), showcases his greatest charm—his rich low register—and sparked a “low-voice boom” across the music industry.

Give a listen to Mifune’s dandy, captivating voice!
