SARANishimura Asato (FENCE OF DEFENSE)

Masatoshi Nishimura, who handles vocals and bass for the rock band FENCE OF DEFENSE, is from Saga Prefecture.

Their fifth single, SARA, became a hit, partly because it was used as the opening theme for the Yomiuri TV anime City Hunter 2.

Hanawa, who works as a solo comedian, is from Saga City in Saga Prefecture.

He released “Saga Prefecture” as his debut single, and performed the title track when he made his first appearance on NHK’s Kōhaku Uta Gassen.

The music video for the song features impressionist talent Akimasa Haraguchi and the then-governor of Saga Prefecture.

LANTIS – Temptation of the Future –Araki Masakihiko

Masahiko Araki is a musician from Saga who has written songs for many artists—including those from Johnny’s—and also pursues his own career as an artist.

He made his debut in 1988 with the single “1999,” and in 1993 he released “LANTIS -Yūwaku no Mirai-” as a commercial song for the Mazda Lantis.

His appeal lies in his powerful vocals, influenced by hard rock and fusion.

In 2021, he released Letters, his first album in 26 years.

Masayuki Tanaka, who served as the vocalist for the rock band Crystal King, is from Imari City in Saga Prefecture.

Their 13th single, “Ai o Torimodose!!,” achieved million-seller status.

It’s well known as the opening theme for the anime Fist of the North Star.

This is Hidetoshi Mukai, the vocalist of NUMBER GIRL, a band that left its mark on the rock scene roughly three years after their 1999 debut.

He’s someone who influenced many artists and bands.

As an elementary school student, inspired by his older brother, he listened to Western music, started playing guitar, and became interested in composing.

He moved from his hometown in Saga Prefecture to Tokyo and formed NUMBER GIRL; after the band broke up, he continued with ZAZEN BOYS and solo projects.

In 2019, NUMBER GIRL reunited, which became a major topic of conversation.

Hiroshi Tokuhisa, who works as a composer and singer, is from Saga Prefecture.

He is currently active mainly as a composer and serves as a director of the Japan Composer’s Association.

He made his debut as a singer with “Kita e Kaerou” (“Let’s Return North”), which was used as an insert song in the TBS drama series Terauchi Kantaro Ikka 2.

When it comes to the singer representing Saga Prefecture, famous for the massive hits “Kojima-gai no Yubin-sen” (The Mail Boat to the Small Islands) and “Kaki no Kizaka no Ie” (The House on Persimmon Tree Hill), that would be Koichi Aoki.

In 1999, he received the 40th Japan Record Awards Special Achievement Award.

His younger sister is also a singer, Harumi Aoki, whose single “Yakyuken” became a big hit in 1954.

It’s said that Jiro Sakagami—later known as Kenichi Hagimoto’s partner in the comedy duo Konto 55-go—once worked as Aoki’s assistant after moving to Tokyo.

A long-standing director of the Japan Singers Association, he was appointed its honorary chairman in 2007.
