Armed with sunglasses, a leather jacket, and leather pants, Guitar Wolf builds on raw garage rock and punk rock while commanding global recognition through their overwhelming lyrical sensibility and ferocious live performances.

Since their formation in 1987, they’ve enjoyed strong popularity overseas early on, even making their album debut in the United States in 1993.

Seiji, an original member and the band’s central figure, is filled with hometown pride—so much so that ever since moving to Shimane Prefecture in the fifth grade, he has declared Shimane to be his hometown.

In 2018, together with voice actor Noriko Hidaka and singer-songwriter Natsuko Kondo, he was appointed a Shimane Prefecture Hometown Goodwill Ambassador (Yatogish).

If this has piqued your interest in Guitar Wolf, start by blasting their major-label debut, Planet of the Wolves, and prepare to be blown away!

Natsumi Murota is a singer-songwriter from Matsue, Shimane Prefecture.

She also performs as part of the three-piece girls’ band, migs.

After receiving an acoustic guitar, she began making music in high school, and she is now based in Okayama, where she attends university.

Her songs, which depict everyday life and are filled with a nostalgic atmosphere, are captivating, and there’s a gentle warmth that subtly comes through, which I find lovely.

With a distinctly Japanese sensibility and a folk-like style, she’s especially recommended for fans of Aimyon and Mao Abe!

There are bands and artists from Shimane who made their major debut and moved to Tokyo, but there’s also a band called homme that continues to share their music from the Izumo region of Shimane.

Thanks to the spread of the internet, we now have an environment where you can put out music no matter where you live.

Music born from a life surrounded by nature and deities can be wonderful, don’t you think? Shimane Prefecture is divided into two areas: Iwami and Izumo.

It seems there are a few differences in local character as well, and people from the Izumo region are said to be better at self-promotion.

Beautiful DaysHazuki (NEMOPHILA)

Hazuki is a guitarist from Tsuwano, Shimane Prefecture, and a member of the all-female metal band NEMOPHILA, formed in 2019.

Her hallmark is powerful playing on a seven-string guitar, delivering a style that is heavy yet melodic.

Since 2020, NEMOPHILA has rapidly gained popularity, releasing singles such as “REVIVE” and “DISSENSION.” They’ve performed at festivals and on live tours both in Japan and overseas, captivating audiences.

While NEMOPHILA draws attention for the contrast between metal’s intensity and their self-styled image as a “hellishly fluffy band,” Hazuki’s guitar work forms the core of their sound.

Highly recommended for fans of hard-hitting music!
