Bands, artists, and singers from Tottori Prefecture (1–10)

As time goes bysawada kenji

Speaking of Kenji Sawada, he’s the superstar who made his mark with the Group Sounds band The Tigers! His nickname is “Julie.” He was born in Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture.

After The Tigers disbanded in 1971, he joined the rock band PYG and began his solo career the same year.

He won the Japan Kayo Award with “Kiken na Futari,” released in 1973, and the 19th Japan Record Award with “Katte ni Shiyagare,” released in 1977.

He has many classic songs, some of which are still beloved today.

In 2020, it was announced that he would appear in a film for the first time in 14 years, and he continues to shine actively even past the age of 70.

PretenderFujiwara Satoshi, Matsuura Masaki (Official Higedandism)

Official HIGE DANDism, affectionately known as HIGEDAN, are a hit-making band whose songs frequently serve as tie-ins and are often heard on TV shows and commercials.

Among the four members, who are widely loved regardless of gender, two—vocalist Satoshi Fujihara and drummer Masaki Matsuura—are from Tottori Prefecture.

Fujihara graduated from Tottori Prefectural Yonago Higashi High School, and Matsuura from Tottori Prefectural Sakaiminato High School.

As a band, the lineup consists of bassist Daisuke Narazaki, who was Fujihara’s senior in their university light music club; Matsuura, who was his junior; and guitarist Ozasa, a friend from outside school.

Singer-songwriter Ansako is also an artist from Tottori Prefecture.

She drew major attention around the time her album “No Make, Story” was released.

Many of you may have come across her in recommendations on subscription services or YouTube and given her songs a listen.

Her candid, bare-all lyrics resonate with many women, and her clear, classic vocal tone feels approachable, allowing listeners to experience the world of her music directly.

VEGASKazuki (ex. SCREW)

Kazuki, who played guitar in the visual kei rock band SCREW.

SCREW was formed and active from 2006, and sadly announced their disbandment in 2016.

Kazuki has said that SCREW would be his last band, and he is not currently active in any other bands.

However, he continues to play guitar, and in 2019 he held a birthday event with SCREW member Manabu as a guest.

In addition to his musical activities, he runs a bar in Kabukicho.

Drifters’ Zundoko BushiZa Dorifutāzu

When you think of The Drifters, you think of the comedy greats—a sketch troupe led by the legendary Chosuke Ikariya, a hugely famous group in Japan loved across generations.

But did you know that before they became known for comedy and sketches, The Drifters were primarily active as a musical group? One of the members from their music days who later became a TV personality, Yasushi Ono—who passed away in 2012—was from Tottori Prefecture.

His self-coined catchphrase, “The genius superstar born in Tottori,” was unforgettable once you heard it.

The idol duo Chelip: Mayu Iji is from Sakaiminato, Tottori Prefecture, and Mion Fujii is from Yonago, Tottori Prefecture.

The two originally performed as part of Latte Friends, an idol group produced by San-in Broadcasting, but they debuted as Chelip in 2012.

At the time, they drew attention as a unit of current high school girls.

In 2019, they announced their retirement from idol activities.

It is said they chose to retire rather than disband in order to preserve the name Chelip.

His base of activity is YouTube! A male solo musician active mainly on social media, known as Seikatsu wa Wasurete.

His chill tracks and clear, translucent vocals are very easy to listen to, and his popularity is currently skyrocketing.

He weaves, in his own words and voice, the countless things in everyday life that are neither black nor white.

While his sound is on-trend, you can distinctly feel his unique expression within it.

These two well-balanced elements reveal a new world to listeners.
