Let’s paint our faces and bodies with lots of colors and enjoy some body painting! In cold seasons, the water can be so chilly that cleaning off the paint feels unpleasant, but in summer, even the washing-off part is cool and fun for kids.

Be sure to let them play freely during the hot summer.

You can paint cute designs like the ones you see at theme parks, or just slather on all kinds of colors—anything goes! Since regular paints can sometimes irritate the skin, it’s best to use paints made specifically for body painting.

Also, be careful to keep paint out of the mouth and eyes.

Ghost busting with a water gun

Water play with everyone at the nursery—fun times with the pool and water guns.

Games where you shoot something down with a water gun are always exciting, right? If you play a game where you shoot down ghosts, it could really bring out the summer spirit and be a lot of fun.

Draw ghost illustrations and use newspaper or calligraphy paper to make something like a string, then hang them from a rope.

It’s easy if you clip them on with clothespins.

Aim for the string part and shoot it down with your water gun.

This way, even kids who are scared of ghosts might enjoy themselves while defeating them!

In summer, it’s best to keep even your playtime cool, right? So let’s try drawing with ice! You might wonder, “Can you really draw with ice?” but it’s actually very easy.

First, squeeze small amounts of your favorite watercolor paints into the compartments of an ice tray, then add water on top and mix to dissolve.

Cover the tray with aluminum foil, and insert straws through the foil into each paint-water compartment to create handles for holding the ice.

Freeze it, and your ice paints are ready! Use the colored ice to draw whatever you like.

You’ll be able to create artwork that feels wonderfully cool and refreshing.

The Ferris wheel spinning round and round

Let me introduce a water-play friendly, spinning Ferris wheel craft.

Gather pool noodles, a milk carton, wooden chopsticks, plastic spoons, and a utility knife, and let’s make it.

First, cut the milk carton to create the base on which the Ferris wheel will rotate.

Next, take a piece of cut pool noodle and make six evenly spaced slits along its side.

Insert plastic spoons into the slits with the handles pointing inward.

Thread a chopstick through the center, set it onto the milk carton base, and it’s complete.

Attach gashapon capsules to the plastic spoons to transform it into a Ferris wheel.

By keeping the balance even, the Ferris wheel will spin smoothly.

Corn is in season in the summer, and it’s sweet and delicious, isn’t it? Here’s how to make a corn cob using two sheets of origami paper.

Stack green and yellow origami so the colors show, fold it into a triangle, and make a crease.

Fold both sides of the paper toward the center line.

Then partially open the folded corners outward halfway to create the corn husk.

Adjust the balance between the corn kernels and the husk, and you’re done.

Penguin you can make with two sheets of origami paper

I will show you how to make a cute penguin that feels cool for summer.

Prepare two sheets of origami paper, round stickers, and glue, and let’s get started.

We’ll begin with the penguin’s face.

Take one sheet of origami and fold one corner by about one third.

Flip it over, then fold the left, right, and bottom edges to form the shape of the penguin’s face.

For the body, fold the left and right sides of the origami diagonally, flip it over, then fold up the tip of the bottom section to finish.

Attach the face and body together, then add the beak, eyes, and facial expression to create your cute penguin.

How to fold a rhinoceros beetle origami for children aged 4 and up

Let’s fold a rhinoceros beetle, a big favorite among children.

Prepare one sheet of origami paper and fold it into a triangle.

Fold both sides toward the center line.

Then, fold toward the center line again, leaving a gap about the width of 3–4 toothpicks, and make a crease by folding the corner up toward the tip.

Following the creases, make step folds, and also fold the corners so the beetle’s shape becomes nicely rounded.

Once the shape is set, make a small cut with scissors on the beetle’s horn area and twist it to create a cool-looking horn.

When you’re done, display it on a wall or elsewhere and enjoy!
