[Childcare] August activities: sensory play to enjoy summer, crafts, songs, and hand play (fingerplay), etc.
August is so hot that it’s hard to play outside.
But there are plenty of games you can enjoy indoors! In addition to water play—synonymous with summer—why not try activities that get everyone excited? There are games that let you enjoy cool, refreshing textures, as well as hand games and dances inspired by summer traditions.
Activities that capture the atmosphere of summer festivals or test-of-courage events are also recommended.
There are so many games kids can enjoy, so try a variety and make fun summer memories!

Handmade Uchiwa [Festival Mood]

Colorful uchiwa fans are a summer festival staple, aren’t they? Using the marble painting technique, kids can enjoy making bright, eye-catching fans all by themselves! They can carry them around and play with them on the day of the festival, or make lots and set up a little fan shop—that sounds fun too.
At summer festivals in preschool, whether outdoors or indoors, the heat is always a concern.
Having a fan they made themselves means they can cool off when it gets hot.
When helping them make their favorite fan, be sure to provide plenty of colors.
Playing aquarium

How about transforming your daycare or care facility into an aquarium to stay cool during the hot summer? Let the sea creatures that children and residents make during recreation swim all around the room! Hang them by strings by the windows, and use the walls and ceiling to create an aquarium atmosphere.
You could also set up a few interactive spots, like a classic fish tunnel, a penguin area, or a jellyfish corner.
Displaying the sea creatures they made themselves will make pretend-play at the aquarium even more fun—guaranteed!
Let’s touch and play! Sensory play

Let’s enjoy sensory play by squishing, kneading, and exploring smooth, gooey textures with our hands.
There are no complicated rules or promises to keep, so even babies from 0 years old can join in.
Try making potato starch clay by mixing potato starch and water, or using kanten (agar).
We use safe and colorful materials, so you can enjoy without worry.
For children around 0–1 years old, let them pat, squeeze, and relish the sensations with their hands.
Around age 2, they can start using tools like spoons and cups to play.
While the materials are safe, please make sure an adult is present to prevent children from putting them in their mouths.
In conclusion
We introduced recommended activities for nurseries and kindergartens in August.
There were plenty of activities perfect for curious children.
Since August is when the heat becomes intense, please take extra care with health management.
Remember to stay hydrated frequently, even when indoors! It’s best to balance times for energetic, active play with times for focused, quiet play as you plan your daily activities.
Let’s enjoy ourselves and stay cheerful without being defeated by the heat!
