I’m sure some of you picked up the bass because you wanted to play ONE OK ROCK songs with a cool groove! Many of their tracks use down-tuning for lower tones, but this particular song is in standard tuning, and if you’ve got the basic bass techniques down, you should be able to play it right away.

Beginners who’ve just started practicing root notes often struggle because rock songs are so fast they feel impossible to play.

In times like that, a great song to practice is Orion by the rock band Tetsukaze Tokyo.

For a rock track, it’s relatively slow in tempo, and the bass is easy to hear—perfect for those just starting out on bass! The guitar part is simple too, so if you really lock in with the drums and match your bass tightly to them, it’ll sound awesome.

Many of you have probably heard the chorus phrase.

It’s one of the signature songs by the rock band ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, released in 2004 as their fifth single.

It was the opening theme for the anime Fullmetal Alchemist.

The bass line is basically root notes, with a bit of movement in the fingering when the measures change.

It should help you pick up some practical licks.

Using that as a starting point to practice other songs may inspire your own arrangements.

A recommended song for those starting bass is Masaki Suda’s “Machigai Sagashi.” First, it’s important to practice with an awareness of how to keep time and how to use muting.

With this song, you can develop the basic techniques needed for bass performance.

The key point is to feel the drummer’s kick as you play.

You should start to develop a solid sense of riding the rhythm.
