Two-Beat Three-Beat Game

Let’s give our brains a workout with a two-beat/three-beat arm game.
Move one hand up and down to make a 2-beat pattern.
With the other hand, trace a triangle-like shape to make a 3-beat pattern.
Do these at the same time.
Doing either one alone is easy, but doing both simultaneously is quite challenging.
After you complete the 3-beat pattern twice, it will line up with the 2-beat hand.
As you get used to it, try switching which hand does the 2-beat and 3-beat, or level up by making a square shape with your hand for a 4-beat pattern.
You can enjoy this without any tools—even on the bus.
Time Bomb Game

Players answer something that fits a given theme and then pass the turn—and the balloon—to the next person.
Since no one knows when the balloon in their hands will pop, the fun comes from the speed and thrill of thinking up answers as quickly as possible.
On TV variety shows, the balloon is inflated until it bursts, but since that’s hard to recreate, we use a device that releases the air at a set time instead.
Because the balloon makes a loud noise when it pops, it might be a good idea to wear earplugs or headphones for safety.
What’s inside the box?

It’s a quiz where you put your hand into an opaque box and try to guess what’s inside using only the sense of touch.
It’s a classic game often seen on variety shows, enjoyed for the contestants’ reactions as well.
Even if the item inside is a simple toy, it’s hard to identify by touch alone—that’s part of the fun.
Since the reactions of bystanders can help lead to the correct answer, it’s best to run the game so that everyone except the contestant can see what’s inside the box.
Using live animals is probably difficult, so I recommend items like scrubbing brushes or rubber toys that can be mistaken for living creatures.
Lip-Sync Telephone Game

A game of telephone where you pass along a given sentence to the next person and enjoy seeing whether the sentence stays accurate.
This version adds new constraints to raise the difficulty: you must convey the sentence using only mouth movements without speaking.
The fun comes from how easily the message drifts.
The trick is to exaggerate your mouth movements so they’re easy to read, and to focus on carefully reading the other person’s mouth.
You can adjust the difficulty by allowing or disallowing gestures other than mouth movements, so if no one ever gets the sentence right, it might be good to relax the rules.
Photo guessing game

It’s a game where childhood photos are presented as questions, and everyone tries to guess whose childhood photo it is.
The fun lies in observing how faces change as we grow and picking up on the faint traces that still remain.
The more participants there are, the easier it is for the person in the photo to keep a low profile and the lower the chance of being found out, which also means you can spend more time guessing.
It would likely be even more exciting if, when the correct answer is revealed, the person also shares a childhood anecdote.
trick question

Trick quizzes whose answers look easy but are easy to get wrong or hard to figure out.
The key is to pose them in wording that deliberately confuses kids’ thinking.
With trick quizzes, once you learn the answer, you often think, “Oh, that’s what it is.” The more seriously you think about them, the farther you might get from the solution.
That, in turn, is part of the fun.
Try solving them by reading between the lines of the question and considering whether there’s another way to phrase things.
It seems like it’ll make for a fun time for everyone to think together during the bus ride, too.

A game where you convey a song through illustrations

Let’s turn famous songs from anime and TV dramas into illustrations and have people guess the titles.
As long as you have a pen and paper, you can play this game.
Draw things like the CD cover art or a depiction of the song’s chorus on paper.
From there, everyone thinks and guesses the answer.
If the kids are interested in or like songs and music, elementary schoolers will likely get really into it.
Singing the song and having them guess could make it even more fun.
These days, people often listen to songs and music outside of TV, so children have many chances to encounter music.
Song-based questions might be quizzes that are easier for kids to answer.
