Craft workshop

Craft workshops aren’t just for kids—adults can enjoy them too! Because parents and children can participate together, incorporating them into children’s group events can help create a space for community interaction.

They’re also perfect for summer or winter break projects, like independent research or crafts.

As long as you have the materials, families can easily try a variety of workshops together, such as terrariums using moss and other plants, eraser stamp carving, bag making, coasters, pottery, and more.

Not only will the kids have fun, but the adults might find themselves totally absorbed as well.

Treasure Hunt Game

If you’re looking to do something fun that makes use of a large space, try a treasure hunt game! As the name suggests, it’s a game where you search for hidden treasure, and it can be enjoyed both outdoors and indoors if you have plenty of room—perfect for many different occasions.

You could hide slips of paper that say “Win” or “Lose,” or hide actual treasures.

It’s also fun to prepare fake hits—like making someone think they’ve found the treasure, only to discover it’s just a rolled-up newspaper!

CupsNEW!

Cups is a game where you make sounds by tapping a cup on a table and combine it with clapping to create rhythms.

It’s popular as a personal pastime, but it’s also often performed as a showcase.

If elementary schoolers are putting on a performance, it might be great to keep time to a popular song.

Everyone can play the same rhythm, or they could slightly offset their rhythms, or intentionally play different patterns and enjoy the back-and-forth—that could be fun, too.

If you get the audience to join in, it seems like everyone could have a lively time together!

Science show

How about putting on one of those science shows you often see on TV as a kids’ club performance? While the ones that require large-scale equipment are tricky, there are plenty of simple experiments that are easy to do and sure to get everyone excited! A famous example is the “air cannon,” popularized by Professor Denjiro.

Cut a round hole in a large cardboard box and tape up the rest securely.

Just by tapping the side of the box, you can knock down a target or blow out a candle.

If you add some dry ice inside, the shape of the air vortex becomes visible, and you’re guaranteed to get some cheers!

Halloween Party

Halloween Party

In recent years, Halloween has been growing in popularity in Japan as well! Since anyone can casually enjoy dressing up, chances are that both kids and adults have taken part in a Halloween party at least once.

Of course, it’s also a great idea for a neighborhood kids’ event.

On the day, let children, adults, and organizers alike have fun in whatever costumes they like! You can also get creative—set up a runway for a fashion show-style costume parade, hand out treats, take commemorative photos, and more—to make it an event everyone can enjoy.

summer festival

It seems that opportunities to hold summer festivals through children’s associations are decreasing in urban areas, but even if it’s not a full-scale festival, with a bit of creativity kids can still have a great time.

A summer festival with portable shrines and traditional music might feel like a high hurdle, but even just letting them get a taste of the festival atmosphere is nice, isn’t it? It’s also great to include games like water-balloon fishing, super ball scooping, or shooting games.

Think of activities that even small children can easily try.

You could also set up a candy shop or food stalls so they can enjoy a festival mood that’s different from the everyday!

Christmas party

Christmas party

When it comes to classic children’s association events, Christmas parties are at the top of the list! Precisely because they’re a staple, doing the same thing every year can bore the kids, so deciding on the program becomes a yearly headache.

Since children’s associations have set budgets, you need to come up with activities that get everyone excited while staying within budget.

Classics like gift exchanges, games, and bingo are recommended because they get both kids and adults involved and having fun together! When giving Christmas presents from the association, the key is to choose items that anyone would be happy to receive regardless of gender or age.

Also, if you keep the decorations and background music on-trend, the kids will likely enjoy it even more.
