Group Shiritori

Introducing 5 recreation ideas that can be done from 1st to 6th grade!
Group Shiritori

This is a game where teams cooperate to play a simple version of shiritori, connecting words one after another.

The team speaks the words together in rhythm, and while one team is saying the word, the next team discusses which word to connect.

If everyone’s voices don’t align, that team loses, so the key to winning is how smoothly the team can share words and work together.

It’s also recommended to ramp up the tempo of the words to evolve the game into a mode that demands faster sharing of words and smoother discussions.

This is a tag game for pairs.

The rules are very simple: after playing rock-paper-scissors, the winner chases the loser! The loser should run away immediately.

Set a line in advance that counts as a win if the runner makes it there.

Because you have to instantly judge whether you won or lost and act right away, it seems simple but actually makes you use your head more than you’d expect.

It’s also a game that builds concentration.

Even with a large group, you can have everyone start side by side and play simultaneously in a large space like a gym.

test of courage

On a summer night, a “test of courage” would really liven things up, wouldn’t it? Didn’t you all do that when you were kids? You go along a set course in groups aiming for the goal, but along the way there are all kinds of traps, scary ghosts and zombies that make you scream, and hidden surprises.

If you play eerie background music, it gets even more exciting and you can really feel chills down your spine.

Just be careful not to make it too scary so it doesn’t traumatize the kids (lol).

Water Gun Battle

Unexpected popularity of water gun battles: adults and children soaked
Water Gun Battle

This is a game where players split into teams and have water-gun battles, aiming to eliminate members of the opposing team.

Participants wear a scooping paper (poi) used for goldfish scooping on top of their heads, trying to avoid water so it doesn’t get soaked and tear, while attempting to break the opponents’ poi.

To keep the game safe and smooth, players should wear goggles to prevent water from getting in their eyes, and there should be monitoring to ensure anyone whose poi breaks immediately leaves the field.

Adding obstacles to hide behind and other variations can boost excitement by introducing more strategy and mind games.

Ring bee

Recreation ideas for children’s clubs that kids from lower to upper elementary grades can enjoy: the Ringbee Game
Ring bee

This activity involves using a ring made of rubber sponge with a large hole in the center to enjoy a rally like a game of catch.

The key point is that it’s made of a soft material, making it a safer tool with less risk of injury compared to a flying disc.

Since both sides are flat, unlike a flying disc it doesn’t generate lift, so you’ll need to figure out a throwing technique that makes it reach your partner.

Also, because there’s a hole in the middle, it could be fun to get creative not only with how you throw it but also with how you catch it.

Mayim Mayim

The recreation that’s hugely popular at children’s clubs is “Mayim Mayim.” This folk dance, with its simple steps that anyone can enjoy, is a perfect chance to build communication.

Just hold hands and dance in a circle, and smiles naturally spread.

It’s great for mixed-age groups because both adults and kids can have fun together.

It’s exciting both indoors and outdoors, so you don’t have to worry about the venue.

Try incorporating it into festivals, school culture events, campfires, and more.

Let everyone experience the joy of moving to the music together.
