For little ones at 0 years old, it’s their very first Christmas—a special time full of excitement and discovery.
Here, we’re sharing craft ideas that use paper plates, colored construction paper, and tissue paper, so 0-year-olds can safely touch and enjoy making them.
Decorate your classroom with seasonal creations like snowmen, reindeer, and Christmas trees.
Tailor the activities to each child’s interests and development, and have fun exploring different textures through touching, sticking, and tearing.
Because we regard what children make as completed works, we use the term “制作” (seisaku: production/creation) in the text.

Making Christmas boots with scribble drawing

Let’s make Christmas boots you can display and enjoy! Please have the teacher handle cutting out the base parts and gluing them together.
For the 0-year-olds, have them scribble on white paper using pens or other drawing tools.
Using several colors will make it look cuter.
Once they’re done, the teacher can use scissors or a hole punch to cut the drawings into star shapes, put double-sided tape on the back to make them like stickers, then give them to the children so they can stick them onto the boot section.
Christmas tree hat

Here’s an idea for a cone hat inspired by a Christmas tree.
Cut green construction paper into a fan shape, roll it into a cone to make the hat, and decorate it as if you’re hanging ornaments on a tree.
Prepare paper cutouts like gift boxes, stockings, and stars.
The teacher should handle making the hats and preparing the decoration parts, and ask the infants to decorate the hats.
You can either apply glue to the parts beforehand or use double-sided tape so they can enjoy sticking them on like stickers.
Handmade party hat

Let’s make some triangular party hats that will be perfect for a Christmas party! Roll a piece of construction paper cut into a fan shape to form the hat.
Then, attach a yarn pom-pom to the very top point.
Finally, add an elastic string so the hat stays on when worn.
This step is difficult for infants (0-year-olds), so the teacher should handle the assembly.
Let the children decorate the hats with stickers! Prepare several types of stickers so they can choose their favorites.
Paper cup Christmas boots

Here’s a cute Christmas boot idea that you can easily make using paper cups.
First, cut the boot parts out of construction paper and attach them to the paper cup.
Next, use a hole punch to make holes in the cup and attach chenille stems (pipe cleaners) as handles.
Please have the teacher prepare these steps in advance.
What we’d like the 0-year-old children to do is decorate the boots.
Let them add cute decorations using round colored stickers and other materials.
Since the boots are red, please prepare stickers in colors that will stand out against the red.
Snowflake stamp

Perfect for Christmas crafts! Let’s make a stamp that creates beautiful snowflakes.
We’ll use containers from a lactic acid bacteria drink that children are familiar with.
To make the stamp, place a plastic bottle cap over the drink container’s spout and secure it with vinyl tape.
Then attach cushion sheet cut into snowflake shapes onto the cap.
Prepare inks in various colors, and let the children experience the feel of stamping and the joy of expression as part of the Christmas craft decorations prepared by the teacher.
Display the finished works in the classroom so parents can see them too—sharing those memories will be wonderful.
Decalcomania tree

Here’s a Christmas tree idea using a technique called decalcomania.
Decalcomania means “transfer.” Fold a piece of construction paper cut into a tree shape in half, open it, apply paint to only one side, then close it.
When you open it, the paint will have transferred to the other side, as if it were printed there.
For infants (around 0 years old), it’s nice to help them with folding the paper and let them enjoy the patterns that appear when you open it.
Once the paint patterns are done, glue on the trunk and a star to finish.

Let’s create a Christmas tree with torn-paper collage! Prepare a base with the tree trunk already glued on, and have the children tear several sheets of origami paper into small pieces.
If tearing is difficult, you can prepare pre-torn origami paper.
Apply glue in a triangle above the trunk, then attach the torn paper on top to form the tree.
Finish by decorating with round stickers as ornaments.
Mixing patterned origami with solid colors will make it look more festive.
Choose sticker colors that won’t be overpowered by the origami colors.
