Fun for 1-year-olds! A collection of cute Christmas craft ideas

Many of you are probably looking for Christmas crafts that are fun to make even with little hands.

Here, we’ll introduce craft ideas perfect for one-year-olds.

Using familiar materials, you can create trees, Santa Clauses, ornaments, and more—plenty of delightful projects to brighten the holiday season.

As children use their fingers and enjoy different textures, their imaginations will grow.

Each activity uses simple steps—jump in with the kids and have fun together! Note: Because children’s creations are treated as works, we use the term “production” (制作) in the text.

[Handprint/Footprint] Smiling Santa

[Kindergarten/Daycare] December Handprint Santa with a Beard – Art/Craft Project
[Handprint/Footprint] Smiling Santa

The children’s handprints transform into Santa’s beard! It’s a Christmas craft that will make both teachers and kids smile.

First, have the children stamp their handprints on construction paper and cut around them.

Meanwhile, the teacher prepares the face, body, hat, and other parts.

Combine everything to make Santa, and have the teacher and children work together to draw the face with crayons! If there’s time, you can also make a Christmas tree and let the children decorate it with stickers.

By turning their own handprints into part of the artwork, the children will enjoy an even more special experience.

[Handprint] Reindeer Hat

[Christmas Craft] Super Easy: How to Make a Reindeer Hat (Nursery/Kindergarten)
[Handprint] Reindeer Hat

Let’s make a reindeer hat that will be a big hit at Christmas parties and more! It’s a craft that uses children’s handprints.

First, have the kids stamp their handprints with brown paint onto white construction paper, then cut around the prints.

Turn a paper bag upside down so the opening is at the bottom, and staple the handprints to both sides at the top.

Next, make eyes and a nose from construction paper and stick them onto the paper bag.

The step of attaching pieces to the bag can be done with cooperation between the one-year-olds and the teacher.

Adjust the hat to fit each child’s head by cutting small slits as needed, then wear it and have fun playing!

[Toothbrush Painting] Pop-up Christmas Card

[Toothbrush Painting] Pop-up Christmas Card

Let’s make lovely Christmas cards by painting with a toothbrush instead of a brush! By adding a mechanism, you can enjoy it as a pop-up card, too.

First, fold the base of the card in half, cut a slit, and fold it diagonally to create the pop-up mechanism.

Next, dip a toothbrush in paint to draw a Christmas tree, and use a cotton swab to dab on decorations.

Please have the teacher support the children during this step! Finally, write a message and add star-shaped stickers to finish.

If the children give their handmade Christmas cards to their parents or guardians, they’re sure to be delighted.

[Paper Cup] Ringing Bell

[Handmade Instrument] [Christmas Craft] Perfect for decorating your Christmas tree! Paper Cup Bell
[Paper Cup] Ringing Bell

Why not try making a sound-making Christmas decoration—a paper cup bell? Working on it together with the children will also deepen the bond with the teacher.

Glue colored construction paper to the outside of a paper cup, and let the children have fun decorating by sticking on colorful round stickers.

Next, thread a jingle bell onto fishing line (or clear thread), secure it to a chenille stem (pipe cleaner), pass it through a hole made at the top of the paper cup, form a loop, and fasten it—and it’s done! One-year-olds will be fascinated by the bell that makes a sound.

Since the bells are palm-sized for the children, it’s perfect for them to pick up, shake, and play with.

How about making a Christmas wreath out of simple paper plates as a craft to enjoy with children? First, fold a paper plate in half, cut out the center to create the wreath base, and have the teacher paint it with poster paint.

Next, let the children stick on masking tape, round stickers, and star-shaped stickers.

Besides painting, you can also enjoy other methods with the kids, such as tearing origami paper and gluing it on, or attaching crumpled tissue paper.

To finish, punch a hole at the top, thread a ribbon through, and it’s done.

If you have time, adding a bell made from origami or your child’s photo would make it even more charming.

This is a cute Santa made from a paper plate! It’s a craft that uses the rim of the paper plate as Santa’s beard.

Have the one-year-olds try drawing Santa’s face with crayons! Many children may not be used to handling crayons yet, so please support them as needed.

Also, please have the teacher make the Santa hat out of origami and handle the step of attaching the face to the paper plate.

The children will be delighted with the adorable Santa they create.

In conclusion

We introduced crafts that one-year-olds can enjoy using familiar materials such as clear folders, aluminum foil, and paper plates.

As they feel the texture of each material and choose colors and shapes to complete their work, these activities nurture children’s rich sensibilities.

While watching over their crafting, please create warm Christmas memories together.
