The little waddling Santa Claus is super cute, isn’t he? Let’s glue red construction paper onto a paper cup and draw a Santa illustration.

Prepare two bottle caps, put a super ball inside, and glue the caps together.

Thread a rubber band through and use tape to secure it.

Put some beads in a small bag, tie it with a string, and attach it to the paper cup Santa.

Make shallow cuts at the bottom of the paper cup, fit the rubber band in, and it’s done.

Try twisting the caps to make it toddle along.

It might be fun to have a race, too!

Party poppers are a must-have at celebrations—the loud pop and the confetti bursting into the air really bring the fun.

This project shows how to make a popper that bursts confetti using a paper cup.

First, make a hole in the bottom of the paper cup and insert a rubber band that’s been tied to a toothpick, anchoring it to the bottom and securing it with tape so it catches firmly.

Wrap one end of the rubber band with folded aluminum foil to create a piece that can strike the bottom of the cup—this completes the base.

Next, put confetti or finely cut pieces of straw inside.

When you pull and release the rubber band to deliver an impact, the contents shoot out like a party popper.

As you build it, experiment to see how the confetti scatters and rises.

If you’re looking for a craft idea that can double as a decoration, how about making a paper cup hat? Cut off the rim of a paper cup, then leave about one-third from the bottom intact and make many vertical slits starting from the rim side.

Spread the slit sections outward, then weave them by folding them up diagonally from the rim side to form the brim of the hat.

Decorate it with your favorite ribbon and you’re done.

The color and pattern of the paper cup will become the hat’s design as-is, so choosing the cups is part of the fun, too.

Christmas wreaths made with paper cups are surprisingly striking despite what the name might suggest, making them a fun project.

Simply prepare paper cups in various colors, each with slits cut into them, and connect them into a ring; the result evokes a wood-like texture, so it’s easy for children to try.

Another nice point is that the colorful base alone looks festive even without additional decorations.

However, since you’ll be using scissors for as many cups as you have, make sure an adult assists when very young children are doing the cutting.

A talking paper cup puppet that opens and closes its mouth, made using a paper cup and colored construction paper.

Cut slits on both sides of the paper cup and fold the bottom part in half.

The upper half becomes the face, and the lower half becomes the body; use construction paper to make and attach the face, clothing, and other details.

You can also decorate not only with colored paper but with ribbons, beads, or masking tape.

Santa Claus and a reindeer adorably move their mouths—it’s a craft everyone can enjoy playing with even after it’s made.
