This song became the catalyst for Hitoshi Ueki’s explosive popularity, and upon its release in 1961, it became a massive hit, selling 800,000 copies.

Although Crazy Cats were a comedy sketch group made up of entertainers, they were also a jazz band with solid technique.

OKARAKO is a music duo formed by the unlikely pairing of comedian Kota Okada and actress Sakurako Mizuki.

Their debut single is the achingly bittersweet Pet Bottle Cap.

Okada handled the lyrics and lead vocals, with Mizuki on chorus.

The song strings together innocent stirrings of first love that spring from everyday realities—like pouring out a half-finished juice into the kitchen sink.

The lyrics, showcasing Okada’s talent breaking out from the world of comedy, are outstanding.

His vocals, which sound almost effortless, suit the song perfectly.

Ultras is a three-piece band born from JaruJaru’s sketch “A Guy Influenced by Ulfuls.” Their first album, “Dassa!,” which drew attention for including a track produced by Ulfuls’ Tortoise Matsumoto, also features the song “Ai ga Au.” The contrast between the acoustic guitar–only ensemble and its lyrical melody is wonderfully pleasant.

While it includes phrases that are quintessentially JaruJaru, the heartwarming lyrics are moving enough to make you forget it’s a song by comedians.

It’s a catchy number you’ll want to check out—including the alternate versions.

Dandy Sakano, who became a huge hit with gags like “Get’s!” and “Niooka!”, and Madoka Oishi, the original ‘entertainment idol,’ have earnestly covered and remade the nostalgic classic ‘Ai ga Umareta Hi’ without any comedy.

For those in their 50s and up, the title likely brings to mind the original duet by Miwako Fujitani and Yoshiaki Ouchi.

This version by Dandy and Oishi is every bit as sultry as the original, and above all, Dandy’s singing voice is exceptionally pleasing.

It’s a highly recommended track that I hope many more people will listen to.

Did you know that Hoshino Disco from the comedy duo “Parpar,” managed by Maseki Geinosha, has made his debut as a singer under the name Kazunari Hoshino? His clear, three-octave voice has even earned praise from Ariyoshi.

The song “My Beloved Little Devil” is a poignant breakup ballad about still having feelings for the girlfriend who dumped him—a lingering attachment to a love that’s over.

The drama-style music video is also a must-see.

Keep an eye on Hoshino’s beautiful singing voice, which shows a different side from his sketch comedy persona!
