Since around 2018, I’ve often seen music videos with this kind of touch in dance music, like Justice’s “Heavy Metal” or BLACKPINK’s “Kill This Love,” popping up here and there.
Turning UpARASHI
A music video packed with scenes of ARASHI’s members dancing and singing in various places.
It evokes the group itself, which has steadily expanded its reach over the years.
The choreography also incorporates the recent Motown revival vibe that American artists like Bruno Mars have been flocking to.
Knowing it’s been embraced in Japan, I feel they were finally able to take on a funky musical style.
It ends with the classic “it was all a dream” twist, which feels very current and directly expresses 2020’s trend of a dreamy, floaty sensibility.
Cry & FightMiura Daichi
Daichi Miura possesses highly precise dance skills and otherworldly vocal ability.
He describes this as the music video that focuses the most on dance, obsessively dedicated to it, and the perfectly synchronized moves with the backup dancers will give you goosebumps and make you reluctant to even blink.
It’s also a song that gained attention for its silent dance segment in concert.

At first, the sight of 150 people dressed identically standing quietly gives off a slightly eerie feeling.
