RAG MusicBand
A wonderful Japanese music band

A classic song by The Cro-Magnons. Recommended track.

The Cro-Magnons is a rock band formed around Hiroto Kōmoto and Masatoshi Mashima, also known from THE BLUE HEARTS and THE HIGH-LOWS.

Carrying on the same straightforward rock ’n’ roll sound from the THE BLUE HEARTS era, their music is passionate and catchy.

In 2019, they drew attention by performing the theme song for the hit drama “Mr.

Hiiragi’s Homeroom (3-nen A-gumi: Ima kara Minasan wa, Hitojichi desu).” In this article, we’ll carefully select and introduce some of their most popular tracks.

Be sure to give them a listen!

The event will proceed even in a thunderstorm.Za Kuromaniyonzu

With a snarling, heavily distorted electric guitar and Hiroto Kōmoto’s gentle yet rough-edged vocals, this punk number’s intro alone gives me nonstop goosebumps: their 10th single, “Raiu Kekko” (“Proceed Despite the Thunderstorm”).

Even the title—so punchy and packed with meaning you wonder if a four-character idiom could be this cool—is absolutely perfect.

Masatoshi Mashima’s guitar solo, the lyrics that make your heart rise up—everything feels like it gives strength to us listeners.

It’s the punk track I want to hear when I’m down or low on energy!

rock bottomZa Kuromaniyonzu

A rock number characterized by a sharp, speedy 8-beat.

The repeatedly catchy chorus—somewhere between positive and negative yet somehow encouraging—sticks in your head and becomes addictive.

Also pay attention to the straightforward lyrics that make your gloom gradually feel like it doesn’t matter anymore.

This track is a number written and composed by Hiroto Kōmoto, included on their fifth album “Oi! Um bobo,” released in November 2010.

The band’s raw groove, stripped of unnecessary ornamentation, hits you straight in the chest.

Kōmoto’s blues harp is another highlight, brimming with overwhelming energy that blows away the blues.

Give it a listen when you’re feeling down, and you’ll feel power welling up from deep inside!

When I Fall in LoveZa Kuromaniyonzu

Pure, fiery rock ’n’ roll that awakens the primal impulse deep in your chest.

“Koi ni Ochitara” is included on the album “MONDO ROCCIA,” released in October 2009.

Masatoshi Mashima wrote and composed the song.

With a muscular sound and phrases pared down to the bare minimum, it conveys the overflowing feelings of the very moment you fall in love.

No needless explanations—just the aching clarity of “I love you.” Perfect for when you’re in love!

Eight beatZa Kuromaniyonzu

The 4th single, “Eight Beat,” released in May 2008.

If you’ve been a fan since The Blue Hearts, just hearing Hiroto Kōmoto’s harmonica in the intro might bring tears to your eyes.

And the title is the rhythm that symbolizes them: “Eight Beat”! That alone already makes it amazing, but the song itself is a tear-jerking piece of punk rock that, in stark contrast to the previous release “Giri Giri Ga Gan Gan,” strikes deeply at the heart—a punk track that brings back countless memories and scenes.

Elvis (provisional)Za Kuromaniyonzu

Elvis (provisional)Za Kuromaniyonzu

It gained attention as the theme song for the 2015 drama “Dokonjo Gaeru.” Starting with an intro of steadily pounding bass drum and a guitar riff, the full band sound bursts in all at once.

It’s a fiery track that makes their love of rock come through palpably—ideally cranked up loud.

The Cro-Magnons’ masterpieces. Recommended songs (21–30)

With a simple, fast-paced melody line, this song enjoys high popularity among fans and has become a staple at live shows.

In contrast to the razor-sharp band sound, the lyrics—filled with gentle, storybook-like words—are delightfully charming.

It’s a track that evokes a subtle sense of nostalgia.
