Recommended ideas for student council projects at a school festival, such as recreational activities and stage events.

In addition to each class and club preparing their own attractions for the school festival, aren’t there also schools that hold special events organized by the student council?

That said, coming up with plans that students and visitors will truly enjoy can be quite a challenge.

So in this article, we’ll introduce recommended ideas for student council-led projects at school festivals!

We’ve gathered a variety of ideas, including decorations to brighten up the venue, recreational activities and games everyone can join, and stage events led by student council officers.

There are also school-wide ideas that only the student council can pull off, so be sure to use these as a reference.

giant mural

Using about 500,000 one-centimeter-square colored paper pieces, high school students joined forces to create a giant mosaic in Takamatsu City.

How about taking on the challenge of creating a giant mural—something that really feels like a school festival piece—to decorate the exterior walls of the school building or the gym? Since it would be a centerpiece of the festival, it would be a project well worth tackling as student council members.

While it’s great to paint a mural collaboratively, if you make it in the style of mosaic art, even those who aren’t confident in drawing can actively participate! There are plenty of guides online on how to make mosaic art, so look them up and give it a try as you work on it.

Jenga is said to have originated in the United Kingdom.

It’s a game where you pull out rectangular blocks while negotiating with your opponent so as not to topple the tower.

Since it’s often featured on TV variety shows, many of you may already be familiar with it.

How about making a giant version of that Jenga using polystyrene foam or cardboard boxes? Giant Jenga makes an impact with its size alone.

You can also customize the game in many ways—color-code the blocks, write in point values, and more!

theater

When it comes to large-scale stage events that can energize a school-wide cultural festival, theater is a top choice.

By using a large stage like the gymnasium, you might be able to move a big audience.

It also helps build a sense of unity among various students across the school, starting with the student council members.

You can perform an existing play as-is, add your own twists, or present an original story.

Incorporating relatable “school life” moments is also recommended.

fashion show

Fashion shows that combine elements of both exhibits and performances are an idea adopted by many schools.

Since this will be a student council project, why not go big and use the gym instead of a classroom? The real appeal of a fashion show is that everyone can freely prepare and showcase their outfits.

It would be exciting not only to feature stylish clothing but also to incorporate costume-like elements.

It’s also recommended to set a theme for the show.

Try something with a fun vibe, like “Transform with Magic” or “A European Ball.” Doing so will help define the direction for the music and staging you use.

Crossdressing contest

Beauty pageants like Miss and Mister contests are classics, but equally popular are cross-dressing competitions where participants compete in opposite-gender attire.

As the name suggests, male students dress as females and female students dress as males, and they’re judged on how well they pull it off.

The key to making these cross-dressing contests exciting is to avoid treating them as a joke and to seriously aim for high quality.

In addition to costumes and makeup, studying and incorporating mannerisms and behavior will help turn it into a solid, entertaining show.

School Introduction Video

Why not try filming a short movie themed around the school we attend every day? It will deepen our affection for the school, and above all, it’s sure to become a lasting memory! It’s also a perfect idea for introducing our school to visitors from outside during the culture festival.

Capture key highlights in the movie, such as a day in the life of students, the school’s proud facilities, a guide to various areas on campus, class scenes, and club introductions.

Be careful not to cram in too much content—if the runtime gets too long, viewers may lose interest.

Try to craft a concise, spot-on piece that conveys everything effectively in a short time.

Balloon release

How about trying a balloon release—hugely popular as a wedding performance—as one of your school festival events? Some schools hold them during opening or closing ceremonies! As the name suggests, a balloon release involves sending helium-inflated balloons up into the sky, and the sight of colorful balloons soaring upward is truly spectacular.

Sometimes people write messages, such as wishes for disaster-stricken areas’ recovery, before releasing them.

While ordinary latex balloons are said to have minimal environmental impact, there are also balloons made from materials that dissolve in water or break down under sunlight, which place even less burden on the environment.

It could be worthwhile to consider those as part of environmental education.
