[Short Movie] A collection of video project ideas you can use for cultural and school festivals

There are probably many people who want to try making a video for the school festival!

These days, there are lots of apps that make filming and editing easy, so the key point is that anyone can give it a try without much hassle.

Here, we’re mainly introducing videos that were actually made for school festivals.

From works with lots of time and effort put into them to fun videos that stand out with clever ideas, there are many different styles.

Use these as a reference and expand your ideas in various directions.

Let’s all work together to create a memorable video and enjoy the school festival!

Short Videos: A Collection of Video Project Ideas for Culture and School Festivals (1–10)

Ridiculously cool video

Baka-Cool Everyday 2014 - Cultural Festival Project -
Ridiculously cool video

It’s a piece composed of short clips showing everyday actions carried out in a stylish way.

The structure repeatedly presents moments that seem almost miraculous, like tossing trash into a bin without looking or tidying up by juggling items with your feet.

If you frame it as “a day in the life of a high school student,” layering these miracles onto the events of a single day, the added sense of story could make it an even more polished work.

It would also be great to include moments that prompt playful quips—like “You don’t have to make even that move stylish!”—that make viewers chuckle.

Ending with just a string of miraculous moments is fine, but if you play a making-of segment after the main feature that shows the path to achieving those shots, you can also convey the effort and relatability behind them.

Toshin Parody

This is a video where people imitate the distinctive looks and speaking styles of prominent TOSHIN prep school instructors—like Mr.

Osamu Hayashi, who became a celebrity with his “Imadesho!” catchphrase, and Ms.

Hagino, the ‘Madonna of Classical Literature’—to make humorous, entertaining claims.

It could also be a fun idea to include promotions for your class’s booth at events like school festivals.

A parody of Itte Q

A parody of Itte Q

This is a parody-style video of the variety show “Itte Q! to the Ends of the World,” popular across generations.

It’s packed with all the Itte Q flair—parodies of quizzes and commercials, prank videos, and more! Rather than just recreating the original, adding arrangements that highlight your school’s unique character could make it enjoyable for even more people.

Including a blooper reel at the end would also make it a fun watch.

It’s sure to liven up the opening ceremony of a school or culture festival, so be sure to use it as a reference!

When you hear “making a movie,” it might sound grand, but how about producing and screening a short film? You could shoot something with friends using familiar places or themes.

These days, you can handle everything from filming to editing on a smartphone.

It takes a bit of technique, but video editing and the like can be so fun you might just get hooked.

Stylish text video

Stylish text video

If you want to wow viewers with your video editing prowess, stylish text-only videos are the way to go! Editing filmed footage is great, but going all-in on typography lets you showcase your core technical skills even more.

The timing of when text appears, the speed at which it fades, the sync between the music and the motion—there’s no end to the details you can obsess over.

Pouring your heart into every tenth of a second and every millimeter as you create something together will become an unforgettable, youthful memory.

Stop-motion exhibitionNEW!

When it comes to Tim Burton’s breakout work, it has to be The Nightmare Before Christmas.

I feel like that was around the time we started hearing the term “dark fantasy,” too.

Shaun the Sheep, which you see a lot these days, is made with clay.

What these two have in common is, yes, stop-motion animation.

If your class has the time and patience, this project is highly recommended! You can create film that looks like animation just by stringing together a sequence of individually shot images.

There are even apps dedicated to this nowadays.

You can also do stop-motion with actual classmates, so you might end up with unexpectedly funny videos.

Because the visuals can be monotonous, the script becomes important—so be sure to come up with an impactful opening scene.

Movie thief-style cautionary video

That thing that shows up when you watch a movie at the theater—you know, those comical characters from the movie piracy ad! How about doing a parody of that theater commercial for the cultural festival’s guidelines? Making an animated ad with those characters would be fun, but if you go all out and make cosplay and perform it, I think it would really hype things up.

And of course, be sure to include the popcorn and soda characters too!
