Pretty Cure, the quintessential girl hero that many women admired in their childhood.

The opening theme for the 13th installment of the Pretty Cure series, Maho Girls Precure!, is Dokkin♢Maho Girls Precure!.

It’s performed by Rie Kitagawa, who is also active as a musical actress and has sung numerous Pretty Cure songs beyond this series.

Whether you listened to it as a child or not, this is a song that instantly puts you in a magically fun mood.

Dreaming I was dreamingAmuro Namie

This is Namie Amuro’s 11th single, beloved by everyone as a songstress since her debut in the ’90s.

Her vocals are sultry and beautiful, and this breakup song, sung in slow R&B, carries a mature aura.

It makes sense, since it was produced by Tetsuya Komuro.

As the last song before she went on maternity leave, her short-haired look while performing it was incredibly captivating and memorable.

The poignant emotions of the woman expressed in the lyrics overflowed from Amuro herself in this track.

DREAMING GIRLYamashita Tatsuro

NHK연속 TV소설 해바라기 OP 풀버전 – Dreaming Girl (1996)
DREAMING GIRLYamashita Tatsuro

DREAMING GIRL, the 29th single, was written as the theme song for the NHK morning drama series Himawari.

It’s a delightful number where passionate lyrics contrast with a refreshingly crisp ensemble.

While the leaps and dynamics in the chorus can be challenging, the melody flows at a relaxed pace and the range isn’t too wide, so it’s easy to sing if you set the key to suit your voice.

If you’re confident with high notes, definitely try it in the original key—an emotional track worth the challenge.

This is a track included on the 1998 album “COZY,” written by Tatsuro Yamashita specifically for a Mister Donut commercial.

The reason I’m introducing this song now as one you may feel you’ve heard somewhere is that Masaki Suda covered it in a Mister Donut commercial in 2023.

The chorus has an extremely addictive melody that’s striking, and the song has a mysterious charm that makes you feel happy as you listen.

When it comes to Ho-kago Tea Time, many people probably think of this song.

“Don’t say ‘lazy’” is so famous it’s considered synonymous with K-On!.

Thanks to K-On!’s influence, many people started playing instruments, and plenty chose this song as their first challenge.

This track, packed with Ho-kago Tea Time’s coolness, will definitely get you pumped!

Fairy Tale LabyrinthTamura Yukari

Beyond her undeniable ability as a voice actress, Yukari Tamura also has a solid track record as a voice-acting artist, having become the third voice actress—after Hekiru Shiina and Nana Mizuki—to perform at the Nippon Budokan.

She is also known for her passionate fanbase, so much so that there’s even the term “Yukari Kingdom,” where Tamura is the princess and her fans are the citizens.

Her 2006 single “Fairy Tale Labyrinth” served as the first opening theme for the anime “Otogi-Jushi Akazukin,” in which she herself starred.

The lyrics were written by Aki Hata, a songwriter indispensable to any discussion of anime songs from the 2000s onward.

Tamura’s vocal performance is marvelous—maintaining a fairy-tale atmosphere without tipping into excessive sweetness—and the driving arrangement and irresistibly catchy melody fuse at a very high level to create a masterpiece.

It feels like the methodology of this track went on to greatly influence later anime songs and Vocaloid tunes.

As an aside, the follow-up single “Princess Rose,” which became the second opening theme for the same anime, is also a gem that reached No.

6 on the Oricon chart!

Do-Re-Mi-Fa TrainHayami Kentarō, Shigemori Ayumi

The ending theme of the puppet show “Doremifa Donuts!,” set on Donuts Island near Niko-Niko Island—the setting of the previous work “Niko Niko, Pun”—is “Doremifa Ressha.” The main vocals were performed by Kentarō Hayami, the 8th “Uta no Onii-san,” and Ayumi Shigemori, the 17th “Uta no Onee-san.” It’s a groovy, funky number featuring slap bass and cutting guitar.

As the title suggests, it uses many sound effects that evoke trains, such as locomotive whistles and chuffing steam sounds.
