Connected to the tenshu (main keep)

The Moon-Viewing Turret (Tsukimi-yagura) of Matsumoto Castle has a rare design in that it is connected to the main keep. Incidentally, the Grand Main Keep, the connecting Watari-yagura, and the Inui Small Keep were built in the Sengoku period, while the Moon-Viewing Turret and the Tatsumi Attached Turret were constructed in the Edo period. The three structures from the Sengoku period were equipped for combat, whereas the two from the peaceful Edo period lack such features. In particular, the Moon-Viewing Turret is notable for its elegant appearance, including vermilion lacquer.
